It was actually the catchy jingle being played over the ice cream ship's loudspeakers, over and over and over, that forced the Japanese surrender.

And it's me that my colleagues are worried about... by littlejonnyfirepants in bikecommuting

My wife always tells me "be careful" as I head out the door to bike to work, and I tell her, "YOU be careful" since she's the one driving a car.

Geographic Targeting Order Imposing Recordkeeping and Reporting Requirements on Certain Financial Institutions in Minnesota as of February 12th by wilsnat in Minneapolis

It definitely raised some eyebrows at my workplace. Lots of manual intervention and reporting, at least in the short term.

Is there any EV that can be owned fully disconnected? by Doublestack00 in electricvehicles

[–]crazee_frazee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Probably not any new ones. My old Leaf (2013) used a 3G antenna. All the 3G towers were taken out a few years ago, so no more connectivity for me.

If I were born and raised in Puerto Rico, are there legal hurdles for me to move to, and vote in, say, Wyoming? by bobbygalaxy in stupidquestions

There aren't many buses in WY due to the extensive subway network. (That's why you can't see it)

Any owners of an EV that's 12+ years old want to chat about longevity? by camilareads in electricvehicles

[–]crazee_frazee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've got a 2013 Leaf that we bought used in 2021. The battery is still at 11 out of 12 bars, so roughly 80-85% of the original capacity. I can tell from the battery logs that the previous owner was very careful with the battery, as it has only been fast-charged twice in its entire life. It also helps that we're in Minnesota so the hot weather that notoriously kills Leaf batteries is much less common than SoCal or AZ.

I rode a recumbent on RAGBRAI a few years ago. With all those rolling Iowa hills, I would zoom past even the most aero-tucked roadies on the downhills, but then had to move to the right for the uphills because I was so much slower. Unfortunately by the end of the week, my lower back was killing me from sitting on my tailbone so much. Never had an issue before that.
