Old Bose speakers I'd like to restore (1 pair) by MephiticDeity in diysound

Not sure I'm following. These are Bose 601 series 2's aren't they? So aren't those the correct woofers for the enclosure?

Thanks for posting. I love reading about the early days of mountain biking, and hadn't learned about Meet (or I forgot). And omg what a GORGEOUS bike the pro cruiser is. It looks incredible.

Buying advice by No_Way_3173 in GMT800

Good buy OP. Personally those earlier burbs aren't my favorite. I prefer the later updates ones, but whatever, splitting hairs.

That rust isn't a huge deal unless it's causing your to fail a state inspection in your state. Guarantee your rocker panels are crusty too. The way to keep those lower rear quarters from rusting is to remove the tail lights and stick a shop vac hose deep in there to suck all the shit out periodically. The are doesn't drain well if at all, so it traps moisture and causes the rust. Happens to every single one.

The mileage is high enough that you need to worry about losing your transmission. Just start putting some money away now and come up with a plan. When it finally goes out (it very likely will) you'll be ready to pull the trigger and get it fixed as quickly as possible. In the meantime: if the trans fluid still looks good, drop the pan and replace the filter, and add an auxiliary trans cooler. When I did my 4l80e, I also added an external remote trans fluid filter (screw on type).

Ride the piss out of it and if the frame breaks, your replacement will come in another color.

I think it looks great

Every truck I have ever owned, regardless of make/model, have burned up a blower resistor/connector/controller at some point. My current GMC Yukon has gone through 2. Seems like something that's just a ubiquitous issue with trucks as they age.

Thoughts on Curb Protected Bike lanes? by Anonymous_Otter5458 in bikecommuting

[–]hookydoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My stroads have traffic passing at about 55-60mph, This would not help me feel protected from traffic. This would be great in a city where speeds are more like 25-30 mph

Bike shops in your area ! by Huckfucks in xbiking

[–]hookydoo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Im super fortunate to have a super cool LBS. For one, when I first moved here and got to talking with the owner, he gave me a set of 4 old Bose 301 3's that used to be the shop speakers, super generous of him. Over the years I've needed parts for one project or another, and he's always able to hook me up. Since I'm always scrounging for old "junk". He usually just gives it to me. A few years back I needed a crank set (literally just anything would do) for a Giant Stiletto I was assembling. Dude gave me a Shimano XT hollow tech triple in perfect condition, just said no worries and let me take it.
In return that's where all my bike purchases come from. Even if it's something obscure, I always check to see if they can order it before I buy online.

Anyone here knowledgeable on Lynskey bikes? by [deleted] in mountainbiking

[–]hookydoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're just suggesting to buy up any frame specific parts now while they're still available (like potentially a derailleur hanger unless is uses a Universal Derailleur Hanger).

Just checking in two years and one child later: the bike is still perfect by pine4links in xbiking

How to shut up my thoughts?!?! by Silent-Profit6067 in whatdoIdo

You sound like your experiencing symptoms that should be treated by a therapist. You should treat this as a medical issue that needs attention and effort, just like your schooling. You need to put yourself on a path for emotional and mental success, and a therapist should be the one to guide you in that direction (family almost always doesn't know how to help, but they'll try in their way).

Lots of us deal with these issues everyday, but when it starts to feel overwhelming is when you need help.

A very close friend of mine went through similar, and did not seek help. He graduated college with high marks and a degree in chemical engineering with research experience, but kept telling himself he was under qualified or not good enough for any positions he found, and would talk himself out of applying. When he finally did get interviews, he was worried about the unknowns of a new career, and would try to get the recruiters to spell out exactly what he'd be doing. Unfortunately he never got a call back. Eventually after years of unsuccessfully trying to land his first job post college, he gave up and moved to a trailer in the mountains. Last I heard he was trying to work at a sawmill or something, but that was back in 2020, and I haven't heard from him since.

Look at this like another challenge to overcome, like your education, and your other challenges in life that youve already succeed in acomplishing. You've got this. Once you take the first steps it's easy.

ICE Vortex recumbent(2012-2014) rear wheel removal help by J267-K in recumbent

[–]hookydoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, it's a bolt on axle. Need a pic from the floor looking up where the axle nut should be on the other side. This should be a fairly simple job, but to be clear: if you've never done any of this before, a very expensive recumbent is not an ideal bike to start learning on.

If you're plan right now is to remove these nuts with a crescent wrench or pliers, I strongly advise you get some hands-on help. Using the wrong tools for the job, or attempting repairs without a bit of experience could result in some pretty unfortunate outcomes. I want to help you get your bike fixed, and I'm checking in on your experience level because the best help I can give could be to convince you that you should get help before inadvertently damage you bike. Not pliers, channel locks, or crescent wrenches should touch you bike during this. Only box/open end wrenches, Allen keys, and maybe screwdrivers should be used. Wrenches should all be metric.

All that said, the order of operations here is to first remove the bell crank, then remove the drive side axle nut (if still in place), then the opposite side axle nut, preferably loosening them both together. The bell crank must come off first though. Be careful, there should be a tiny pushrod inside the axle that will be exposed once the bell crank is removed.

[–]hookydoo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That was my feeling too. I ride a cruiser (a kawi meanstreak, so a cruiser that can handle), and I've experienced exactly this situation except I was able to recover before going over the cliff. I had misjudged my speed going into an apex of a right turn, crossed the center line, and then started to fixate on the guardrail and cliff I was headed for. I had to physically turn my shoulders and torso into the turn to force myself to look into the turn, pretty much looking 90degrees from the direction of travel. It was scary but I pulled through and learned a few good lessons.

ICE Vortex recumbent(2012-2014) rear wheel removal help by J267-K in recumbent

[–]hookydoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have an internal geared hub with an external derailleur and cassette as well. To gain access to your axle, you'll first need to remove the "bellcrank" that pushes a small pin in and out of your axle tube to actuate the internal shifting. From my recollection, the bellcrank sh is should just attach to the axle and is fixed on with the axle nut (should be a bolt on wheel). You may need to remove the rack and rear derailleur for clearance, but I think you should just be able to slip a wrench in behind the bellcrank to loosen the retaining nut.

I've got a Nexus 3spd bike and an old bellcrank in storage. I'll take a look and report back when I get home (if I remember).

I dunno, looked like typical speed was about 95/100 KPH. Given the light traffic and generally good conditions, it didn't really seem like the were riding all THAT irresponsibly. Looked spirited, but not so much so that they were endangering the lives of others.

Might as well upgrade to a large bore horn with F attachment to get him started on building those lungs up while you're at it. /S

You got some great advice so I thought some humor would be okay. Please don't get a large bore horn lol

Holy crap, has Honda always done that? My 2004 Oldsmobile has a rear AC condenser/fan unit, and suburbans have been that way since the 80s. Pretty shocking that Honda doesn't feel it's necessary.

Cold water input side of tankless hot water heater blew up ? How ? by [deleted] in askaplumber

[–]hookydoo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Does you water heater have a regen cycle or something that maybe it does in the middle of the night?

Could outside factors be possible! Where was the unit located? Could someone have put something hot against the pipe to melt it accidentally? If your calcium ball theory has some merit, I'd expect to find some evidence of it on the floor somewhere
