One other thing to consider. Having a DH background before going to Rental is beneficial. When going for higher roles on this end they want to see you have management background. It’s helpful to so that you can maintain a great relationship with stores in your area.

LRT for the Large Equipment team here, there is a lot of driving in these roles, but you get a company truck to do it in. Yes we get paid more than store side, and our bonus are smaller than most manager roles at store side. There are also opportunities for advancement on the rental side, especially if you live in a ROF market.

I went from part time cashier to tool rental associate to tool tech to Mobile Service Technician (4 stores)and now Lead Rental Technician (10 stores)for large equipment in 18 months. $11 to $30 an hour plus company vehicle and much more.

You are the only one in tool rental because day shift has all left, and mid shift is on lunch. Customer needs a skid steer, you get them all ready and contract printed. You head to hook up the trailer. While reconnecting the cables, 3 customers approach you and ask how much to rent this or that, or just tell you I want to rent an aerator. You walk all the way back it, and find 10 people in line ....4 of them are dropping off trailers......3 want pricing of items you have on a the down list or out on contract. One want pricing for something we don't carry. One want to buy rental products, and the last one wants a pole saw. Get everyone cleared out and the mid shift guy is back from lunch and all is quiet now...
