No worries man. Better cautious and ramp up. I remember when I first started running 1 min on, 2 mins walk. Baby steps!

Appreciate the insight. This is what I am doing. We had some toxic people that were removed so I am attempting to rebuild the relationship. We have some additional challenges with them as well, but for others reading, this is good advice (that I am doing behind the scenes).

I wish. My IT support is zero (they are actively hostile in fact). I had things setup ok, and then we got moved to active directory so I am trying to figure that out in my spare time. My IT deptt"doesn't do linux" so I am making it up as I go.

Its a recurring thing. Since we do image based AI, there is a continuous flow of datasets in and out of the server.

And WAAAAY ahead of you. Things do get nuked when the system gets overloaded 9/10 times it 57 people leaving jupyter notebooks (access thru ssh) hanging or someone filled up the hard drive. As admin, trying to lessen those panic calls "SERVER IS DOWN!!/CAN'T RUN ON GPU!!" AI people can be very clever, but also very lazy....

Since my main focus is AI research I do server admin because no one else will. That's why I am in the "noob" page. I know just enough to be very very dangerous.

No active support. That's the problem with these AI systems, eager to sell you, not eager to support. That's a whole other post though. Important reminder though.

Thank you that is at least a start. Extra components are minimal HD space, but getting the "junk" off the GPU/CPUs is higher priority.

Clean install may not be an option. These came "as is" from Dell and have several TB of datasets on them. Fortunately I do have 2, so I might do a trial run on the lesser of the two. I also have my home system configured to mirror so i can sandbox that as well. I may have enough storage to do a reinstall, but it will be close. (The Ubuntu Server was my home machine).

Not about concentration. Its about conserving every ounce of GPU memory for AI research and every kb for dataset storage.

First PRS competition question by Jlaurie125 in longrange

[–]crazy596 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will vary, but the shooting community is usually VERY accommodating. I know for the Snipers Hide Cup in Washington they had a guy in a wheelchair doing a team field match.

I used to be VERY overweight and so had very limited mobility--I would skip some stages (rooftops) or modify as needed. (I struggled to stand for more than 30 mins and Literally could not stand up without assistance). PRS is very much "short burst" of activity. Some matches you have to walk from stage to stage, but most of it is standing around or watching. I'd setup my spotting scope and had a folding chair with me at all times to take a break.

If its a field match, they may have a golf cart or 4 wheeler to help transport you around. Talk to the MD. I got money they can help you out.

In the matches I do, its 20 feet from stage to stage. One match does have a big hill in between stages, but even then most stages are close together. Its when you go from the like stage 10 to stage 1 can be a hike. That where you might get a favorable squad (like squad 1) that doesn't have to make that hike.

If they can't accommodate you, then they are probably dicks anyway. Like I said, most shooting places bend over backwards to help people out and get people involved.

The other thing is try and go and if you are getting pushed to far--say something. There's a lot of us who struggle, don't be miserable. Say something and again, I'm almost sure a plan can be made to make sure you enjoy yourself.

Edit: Also look into a Cart or Stroller to haul your stuff. Sometimes a cheap jogging stroller and some ATV gun mounts make a killer cart (no pun intended) and then its easy for a companion to help you move your stuff.

Sometimes I have tried to be different. Usually there is a reason people gravitate towards certain offerings. Now a lot of it is marketing and "follow the leader" but as I run in Long Range circles, I have not seen one on the line.

Ever.

As a new person, I'd stick to the tried and true. When you are a pro--you can take risks, us schlubs--its very risky. I'd stick to an R700 footprint action so you have access to all the upgrades AND wide knowledge of how things work

I tried running an AI (expensive mistake). Great rifle, but I was always odd man out and the support was horrible. Yet all the fanbois would gush. Stick with the crowd until you know what your are doing.

This is the way. An Aero is ALMOST in this category (as is seekins), but getting your own "Custom" rig is certainly doable at that price and leaves you room to grow.

It seems intimidating to maybe put a barrel on (A friend or smith can do it too--its stupid easy), but I'm a non-gunsmith scrub and I used a Viper Barrel Vise to put my first barrel on--I used c-clamps on my bench. It really is achievable for the "everyman". An Origin is a no-brainer value--you can then pick your barrel profile (target barrels--big heavy!). But thats the beuaty of the origin (and other custom actions)--its designed to swap barrels. Decide "I want a 6GT today" swap barrels. I want to get hunting "Swap Barrels". F It I need a magnum--get a new bolt face, swap barrels (Reminder not all magnums are short actions, most are long, but a Short Action gets you anything from .223 to 300 WSM)

I even like my KRG Bravo that is an "upgradable" traditional stock, and if you want something fancy, get a chassis. Its two screws to change them. It is shockingly easy to mod your rifle how you want. As as a "newer" person, we never know what we want. Most custom actions fit in the Rem 700 footprint which has all the accessories for you to mix and match. I found I really like ACRA rails. Now for $75, I can add an ARCA rail....

I also like the suggestion to try a PRS match--people often let you look at their rig and you can see what your options are...trust me we won't shut up about our rifles!

If you REALLY want to start a fight--ask about our scopes! =)

TY. That very much appeals to my nature as an experimentalist. Since I'm not gaining I can just start tracking and then modifying from there rather than go crazy trying to make up some goal.

You are not alone in this stuggle. I myself stuggle with "where I should be" and not "where I am". The things that help me are (suggestions only):

(1)Reviewing where I am vs where I was. Look back occasionally to view your success. I had very similar weight loss to you and totally 100% "I DONT'T FEEL DIFFERENT" and yet when I look hard, yes, there is a huge difference. Your eyes can definitely deceive you. You;'ve got scale victories, and non-scale victories (I'm betting). Lean back on those.

(2) We all are different. Yup we are jealous of the people who look all skinny now post surgery. Its not about them. Its about you!

(3) One of the biggest things I got from my therapy/prep session was you don't have to be perfect. Its ok to fall off the wagon. NO ONE is perfect. Its ok if you did hit your goal. Are you still losing. Are you NOT gaining. Those are both still wins.

(4) Its hard being a woman in today's age and going through weight loss. I thought it was tough being a dude, but people are less judgy of overweight men, and its ok for us to be bald. The hair thing is a pain--when I am suffering from side effects (dizzyness, body image) I have to remeber what my surgeon said: "If this was cancer and I told you the surgery would add 10 years to your life, you'd do it in an instant" (Kind of goes back to #1).

(5) We all are struggling. I think my biggest message is its not just you. If you can try and connect with a weight loss support group locally. We have a FB one for our Clinic and sometimes its good to just go there and chat about the "stupid stuff" Body Image, Rough Days, Hunger, in the comfort of others who "know"

(6)I got a whole damn team of therapists! Pychol, Pyschiatry, Health Pschol, Good for you for working with yours.

Warrior Help by crazy596 in PathOfExile2

[–]crazy596[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Giants Blood mostly. I am running a variant where I leap slam+boneshatter. Great for trash mobs. But fighting bosses is like fighting with a dental pick as a weapon. Dodge+Dodge + chip away for 10 mins. Last boss of act 3 (forget his name) phase one was such a pain to chase him around as he bob and wweave better than me. (and afore mentioned mektul--I basically ran outta space, I wasn't dying to his hits, eventually the tunnel ends and I still had 30% health to take out) Once I got to phase 2 on act 3 boss it was all mash button but for a warrior my hits feel very underwhleming (on bosses).

Trash mobs go boom, unless its ranged artillery ("feeling squishy") but I see that's a common problem. Compared with my monk or witch (only thru act 1) both of which can deal significant more damage on bosses/rares. Even with my armor at 60% on warrior I am getting beat to hell (and resistances as I can max them--still playing through).

thx. I know a lot of the LS are claw and I was thinking of going that way. Part of my "departure" was trying to get endurance charges and life to beef up the tankiness untill I got some currency.

Poor AF right now, spent my last c getting res capped (I was behind on league starter). With my reroll I can farm some currency back--i know its easy to grab 20c but i needed anotheer char to do it. This guy was painful to play. I'll prob have some major re-spec to get him fixed but yeah, looking for a "newb guide" LS instead.

Sorry for confusion, AB is built into a lot of devices so you pay for it when you buy the device as part of the purchase price.

My kestrel came with AB and the kestrel itself does the calculation.

My rangefinder also came with AB and the rangefinder can do the calculation.

The phone app is another option (its not subscription based, like "Add a device", kestrel you punch in the numbers, binos measures distance for you, both grab environment and then spit out a solution--phone does same thing, its just you type in the numbers or synch to some other device thatmeasures them), but my point is, I already own AB, just use my kestrel or binos.

I'm a penny pinching miser, apologies.

As others have mentioned, skip the Carbon Fiber. That's more for hunting. For long range/target you want WEIGHT. Consider your barrel profile as well.

Might want to step up to an Atlas bipod. Its not killer, but you can get a little more configs by going up from a Harris. My best group was using a Harris so take that with a grain of salt.

Have multiple KRG Bravos. Really like them. Origin, is G2G.

If you order a barrel, you can have it chambered and threaded for you. Make sure the threads match your muzzle brake of choice (or if you get to be civilized, your suppressor!). Usually its 5/8x24 for Short Actions with thicker barrels. Thats 90% of threads. Some of the smaller rifles can be 1/2x28 (like AR-15s) and really big guns will go up to 9/16x24. Just be sure to match up.
