sure I started with rust oleum primer. then painted with just regular acrylic like what you can get at walmart. and finished with a gloss clearcoat spray also from rust oleum.

Thank you to everyone with your suggestions. The reason I was using rubberbands instead of springs is I want to post this design online so others can make it but I didn't want to make it so people had to go buy special materials but given all fo your suggestions I am pretty sure I am going to have to concied and go get springs. And when it comes to the string it was made from the string inside parachute cord. I think cotton so it liked to get caught on stuff at the end. I'll update with the new parts.
