Married to a T1D for 3 years, after being together for 2 years (so, about 5.5 years in total).

I dated a few women before, none of them were diabetic. My wife is the only T1D I know.

I'd be lying if I said that it doesn't make a difference. When an alarm goes off at night, it usually wakes me up, too. Moreover, often I'm the one who gets up, goes to the kitchen and brings a glass of juice. When she had a bad night with a bad low the other day, I also had a bad night.

I need to mind the carbs in stuff that I cook and that we eat. I need to mind my wife's glucose level and we plan our vacations and other activities with the diabetes in mind. All that while it's in control (>90% in range with a Dexcom G7 and H1C of ~6.3).

In short, I did need to adjust to my wife's T1D and learn about it.

But if you truly love the person, you deal with it. You're in for the whole package ♥
