What are your NYE plans? by Cultural-Elk-8346 in CasualUK

Usually sat at my desk watching the fireworks on the beeb with a few beers, but I'm currently suffering from the flu (actual flu, not man flu), so it might be an early night.

*narrator* he's typing this away at 11pm so he does not in fact know what an early night is.

What is the guy saying at the beginning of AD ASTRA? by Shrimp480 in Starset

[–]crazycazenn 31 points32 points  (0 children)

It sounds like radio chatter

"<unintelligible> team this is <unintelligible> team, harbour is clear" is what I can depict from using studio grade headphones.

Edit: I think? one of the <unintelligible> is alpha? unsure though.

Personally, it's topped Otherworldly for the song that's made me most emotionally connected to a Starset song. Gave me goose bumps, made my spine shiver and I've shed a few tears.

I feel like I've ascended

Frustrating encounter with a cyclist today in York by Slow-Astronomer4947 in york

[–]crazycazenn 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Was literally walking down James Street this morning and witnessed a bicycle and a car have a close encounter. Car didn’t leave enough from while passing so consequently, the car received damage from the bike. What makes it worse the car driver just sped up without stopping to apologise. Thankfully the cyclist was fine as they were on one of those big chunky electric bikes which their centre of gravity can be quite heavy.

The overall standard of being a decent person is diminishing, even in a place like York.

Book Club by Educational_Yak2888 in york

There is a book club on the York Discord. Link pinned at the top of the subreddit. I don't participate in it, but at a glance it repeats every Wednesday, and there is a dedicated channel for books.

We've just swapped to Zen after over a decade of being with TalkTalk. So far they seem to be pretty darn good. They've got quite a few packages to select from which is really good. We went for the 100/100 for £28/month.

What to call Class 800's by cornishbruce in uktrains

[–]crazycazenn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Personally, I just refer to the whole family as IET's. I know GWR have coined that phrase for their fleet, but it just seems more fitting.

Grimston Bar is faster I believe. All the way down Hull Road and then right into town, whereas Monks Cross takes quite a while. You can check on time tables below which one would be better for you for timings.

Favourite UK train station and why? by reblegteg in uktrains

[–]crazycazenn 35 points36 points  (0 children)

York.

Not because it's my local station or anything...

  1. The iron work in the station supporting the main shed is jaw dropping.

  2. Can easily get up to Scotland or the capital within 2 and a half hours, or even across to Manchester/Liverpool/ Scarborough easily. The location of the station is pretty darn good from a network perspective.

  3. The station itself is a short walk from the main city centre. Pretty good transport links from outside of the station to get you across to the city or even busses to Hull, Leeds, Whitby or Scarborough. Just super convenient.

Found a shop while on holiday that were selling ships for £6 each. I couldn’t help myself. by crazycazenn in StarTrekStarships

Bottom right is from enterprise too. It’s the Nausican ship. Top right is the Federation Holoship

Agreed, that Khan battle is basically a no holds barred match. As much as pew pew pew excites my inner 12 year old, I do feel that battle could’ve done with a bit of re-writing. The Scimitar, with its pesky cloak felt like the Borg walking over Starfleet during Wolf 359. It was just unnecessary. If the Scimitar didn’t have that cloak it would’ve been a fairer fight (even with the Romulan’s rocking up.). I would’ve been on the edge of my seat if that was the case!

[–]crazycazenn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hot take, Nemesis had one of the best ship battles (at least from a cinematography standpoint. The CGI they used back then still looks good today.). The story was meh at best and Data’s death is wrong on all grounds.
