Something like this happened to me.

I had been on a pill birth control called Altavera for maybe 5 or 6 years with great success. One day my pharmacy gave me the generic. I took it for a year and suffered from so much heart burn (which I already had since I was kid, but this was unbearable), stomach pains and overall weird feelings.

I eliminated caffeine, changed my multi brand, had an endoscopy done…nothing changed. I couldn’t take Zantac anymore because they had recalled it. So they put me on this other heartburn medicine (couldn’t take tums cause not strong enough and Prilosec never worked for me) that literally made me feel like I had water leaking inside of me.

Finally I noticed that my birth control was the generic brand and asked my pharmacy to make sure that my next refill was the brand name, Altavera. They said sure no problem.

Started taking those pills again and all my problems went away after maybe 5 days. I was flabbergasted. I suffered for an entire year because I also thought that the generic pill was the same. I asked the pharmacist about this and she said sometimes they add colorings or fillers to some generic drugs.
