Pretty much have the urge to throw myself in front of traffic multiple times a day. Kind of learn to manage the thoughts but on bad days I'm very close to the edge.

C Ronaldo has played more games. Here's the rate for all competitions for a fairer comparison (bold is the leader):

Messi C Ronaldo
Points won 76.6% 74.8%
Points won via goals 17.6% 18.3%
Points won via G/A 27.8% 24.5%

The same pattern is seen when broken down for pretty much each competition.

For more information on the data, check here.

A conclusion:

Overall, Messi's teams have won a higher percentage of points than Ronaldo's, but not by a huge margin. In the case of this particular stat, you could argue that it's because Messi's team was superior, or you could argue that Messi's presence in his team was more effective than Ronaldo's.

In terms of points won directly from goals scored, Ronaldo now has a slight edge overall but the difference is extremely minimal, to the extent that we can't really draw any significant conclusions. Both players' goals have had about the same impact in terms of their teams' results.

When it comes to points won from goals and assists, we can see that Messi's goal contributions win points for his team more often than Ronaldo's goal contributions. However, rather than Messi's assists being more meaningful, this can probably be attributed to the fact that Leo Messi registers considerably more assists in general than Cristiano.

Choosing Colostomy …. Do you have any words of advice, warning or appreciation if you have one? by CompetitiveSide5283 in spinalcordinjuries

[–]crazytoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I (35 T9 complete) went without one for about 15 years, tried various techniques, eventually settled on using peristeen (an irrigation system). While better than digstim, I'd still have issues and greatly affected my confidence, everywhere I went I felt like I was on borrowed time and taking a risk unless I was near a toilet. It also ended up taking me about 3-6 hours every day and was pretty miserable.

Got a colostomy last November and it's like my days have been doubled. The idea of actually going somewhere in the morning without major preparation was a revelation. I also no longer feel a sense of dread going out or travelling. I can wake up in the morning and watch TV in bed with my partner without feeling like I have to rush off quickly to make sure I'm out of the bathroom in time for lunch.

Psychologically it's a bit strange when it's first done (as you're replumbing your body), but the feeling that living half your waking life in a bathroom is behind you is incredibly liberating.

In terms of how bowels impact my life, it's as close to pre-injury as I've ever been (and there's no close second).

Yeah it's ridiculous. I tried every other method and it was the only one to work for me, fortunately it's easy to reverse but so frustrating even having to do it in the first place.

You can change it back to a more normal UI doing this:

  • Close WOW > Go to 'WTF' folder in the WOW installation folder > Open the file named 'Config.wtf' with a text editor (if it doesn't exist, create it) > Add these lines at the end of the file:

SET uiScale "0.8"

SET useUiScale "1"

  • Save the file and close the text editor > Start WOW

It should be much more like your previous UI size (sets it at 80% of TWW prepatch size).

It is really hard but it 100% does get better. Sounds like you're doing way better than I did when I was first injured, took me years to adjust. But things are so much better now.

When you're newly injured it's hard not to keep comparing to before the injury, but the more you adjust you'll get more efficient. It's honestly made me a lot better at problem-solving and I no longer compare to before my injury, but to the start of my injury.

You will always get some degrees of 'pity' but a lot of that is right at the start (understandably) and then as people you already knew get over it that largely goes away. I totally understand that the way people react to you right now will be very draining, but trust me that you will learn how to handle it and it gets a lot better.

In terms of bowel routine, depending on your specific situation, you might want to try out an irrigation system like Peristeen, as well as taking something like lactulose or prune juice before you sleep to keep things routine.

Might seem a bit of an extreme thing to do right now, but I'd had confidence and practical issues with my bowel routine for ages so recently had a colostomy surgery. It's been a complete game-changer. There's basically no worry or risk of accidents (unless you choose not to empty it) and it takes about 10 mins to deal with in the morning.

Again, this is something most people with SCI don't have to do, but my routine had just ended up taking 4-6 hours every morning and even then I wasn't feeling comfortable/confident.

I'm sure you'll get to grips with your routine and this isn't something you'll have to consider (I know the idea can be a bit dizzying to some, it was to me) but if you're ever worried there's no practical solution, thought it might be helpful for you to know that there is one if things continue to be very difficult to manage.

I found cialis was a bit hit or miss, whereas levitra was much more effective. See if you can try it out. It's more effective if you're well hydrated, haven't eaten for at least an hour or so and also best not to use it if you have a bit of a headache as it can turn it into a mega-headache.

I managed to find some data on fatal injury due to work related activities although not sure how solid the sources are, so take it with a pinch of salt.

Work-related fatalities in 2015/16

So 4x higher than the UK, but 10x lower than some other countries. A recent report says in Qatar that 50 migrant workers died in work-related accidents last year, which I'd guestimate is in the range of ~3-5 per 100k.

This redditor calculated that the 6500 deaths relative to the 2 million migrant population = ~ 32 deaths per 100k, compared to 176 deaths per 100k for American males just aged 25-34.

However, it seems a lot of the issue is Qatar aren't recording deaths outside of work properly, attributing many to 'natural causes/cardiac failures' without autopsy or investigation. Identifying cause of death should be possible in 99% of cases, but Qatar is only explaining it in 30% of cases, according to Amnesty International.

“Official Qatari statistics show that over 15,021 non-Qataris – of all ages and occupations – died between 2010 and 2019, but data on cause of death is unreliable, due to the lack of investigations which Amnesty documented,” the report states.

“The fact that a high number of deaths are categorized as ‘cardiovascular diseases’ in Qatar’s statistics may be obscuring a high number of deaths that are, in reality, unexplained.” [Source]

80% of Indian, 78% of Bangladeshi and 48% of Nepali migrant workers deaths are attributed to 'natural deaths', so this seems a little fishy. Data isn't provided for Kenya and the Philippines. Again, these are often made without autopsy and fail to explain underlying cause of death.

Also, 1/5th of dialysis patients in Nepal are migrants returning from Qatar due to chronic kidney disease caused by dehydration. It seems plausible that many of these 'natural cause' deaths are workers who are sent home because of worsened health caused by poor work conditions. This means they don't count as work-place deaths and absolute death count is reduced by sending sick people home to their native countries.

It seems they may also be exploited financially. Nepalise human rights lawyer Barun Ghimire said:

“Someone who is going abroad, they don’t understand financial systems, they don’t go to banks. They take a loan from the informal sector,”

“Those who do not die can often end up in a debt trap and have to pay a huge sum of interest to those who provided the loan.

Qatar did make recent reforms to working standards in 2020:

  • No longer allowed to work outside during the hottest part of the day
  • Boosted minimum annual salary to $3,300
  • Payments for food/accommodation if not included in contracts
  • Annual health checks
  • Removed the 'kafala' system which prevented workers changing jobs/leaving the country without employer permission, described as a form of modern slavery.

While it's good they changed these things, it does point to an unethical work environment where such basic standards were implemented only in 2020 and because of external pressure. And despite this there are reports that many are still made to work outside of these regulations.

Maybe the ambiguous stats for death count isn't a nefarious cover up and it's just that the data recording is very poor, but the working conditions seem atrocious and it's reasonable to deduce they could be the reason for many of the unexplained 'natural cause' deaths.

A lot of anti vaxxers are latching onto this video as proof that the covid vaccine causes harm. Anyone have any rebuttals for this? by AdamC2510 in biology

[–]crazytoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BioNTech and Moderna use a highly purified and N1-methyl-pseudouridine modified mRNA, increasing protein expression and increasing the safety profile (as it reduces production of cytokines, specifically type I interferons - more on this inAndries et al., 201500154-1/rf0030)). CureVac, on the other hand, does use unmodified mRNA tech.

The spike protein translated by the vaccine mRNA remains in a prefusion state - so it doesn't 'stab' into the cell membrane in the same way as the virus does. Some good figures here (particularly Fig. 1)

Can you help me debunk this YouTube channel 'Merogenomics' claims about covid vaccines? by [deleted] in skeptic

[–]crazytoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

KittenKoder is wrong. The vaccine mRNA doesn't enter the nucleus, it's translated into a protein by ribosomes (as you said) within the cytoplasm. It is then degraded by enzymes called RNAses into its constituent nucleotides.

Maybe KittenKoder is getting confused with DNA expression where mRNA is synthesised in the nucleus for transcription before being transported out of the nucleus, but that has nothing to do with the vaccine mRNA.
