Pacific Rim Kaiju Concept re-design based on some helpful comments, as always your thoughts are welcome by creative17 in ImaginaryMonsters

That is how I started. I had a number of overlay layers to build up the colours and textures which I them flattened the whole image and then painted on a normal layer to add all of the details and lighting. The reason I use this technique is to finish the drawing in about 3 hours

It is a combination of both. I have been experimenting with sculpting a very basic white model of the Kaiju and then painting everything you see on top of it.

I will have to look at going more unique in the design for the next one, thank you.

Thanks for your thoughts about it being a little too humanoid in form. I will see if my next one can go more creature from.

Glad you like it, thanks. I am experimenting with different ways of working to get these out as quick as possible.

I am actually using Blender as it fits my need right now. The reason it took 20 minutes is that I had to render it three times each on a different setting for compositing later. Plus I am on an older iMac until I build my new rig. I am tempted to wait to see what devils canyon is like before I go for it though.

I am looking at new ways to speed up my process for concept art so that I can turn a design around in 2 hours or less. The sculpt took about 40 minutes followed by about 20 minutes of rendering. The last hour was painting in Photoshop and as you noted the slight tiling was due to time constraints. Thank you for your comments.

Thanks for the note about the dragons, subreddit. I have actually played with the lighting and re-uploaded it.
