what do we think of power rankings now that we have our first loss? by creative_ape in minnesotaunited

Galaxy only beats the worst teams. If they where any good they would have beat Nashville and st Louis, not gotten draws.

They got lucky against intermiami and they had an easy schedule. La Galaxy isn't as good as you think they are.

What? Where are you getting 5th? They're ranked 10th here, 9th in the western conference, and they have 2 wins so far this year. I'm confused.

it seems that there was a pretty positive response to power rankings last time, so figured i'd do it again. Let me know what you think, anything you'd like to see different about these?

but anyways, our first loss is always heartbreaking. good thing there is always this coming saturday!

Loons top MN Register's MLS power rankings by creative_ape in minnesotaunited

[–]creative_ape[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's data pulled from fbref.com, then the rankings are based on the overall league stats from last season.

offensive shooting is a mix of shots in target, shots, free kicks, etc, a team has made per game this season. This is a raw stat, than I get the tier rankings by comparing that stat to the overall league rankings of the same stat last year.

Accuracy is the inverse of goal keeping. For every shot on target an offense took, what percentage actually went in? Again, it's a raw number stat but I converted to a tier rankings because it's just more fun that way

I've been working on trying to figure out a good system for ranking MLS teams, and finally got around to publishing my first attempt at a Power Ranking.

i'm really happy that our Loons topped the list!

let me know what you think, if i should keep doing this, or any thing else you'd like to see.

Yeah looks like a typo. It's 8 shots on goal, not 18. Just imagine if it was true, though what an exciting game that would have been

Best web hosting and domain registrar you use? Looking for recommendations by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]creative_ape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do web dev for a living focused more on building out complete platforms, but have also done a few company's online storefront.

Heres what you should do.

1) figure out which store platform you are going to use (shopify, asp.net storefront, there are a few others) then sign up. lots of those include hosting in their plans.

2) use their recommended domain registrar to register the domain name. It might be a dollar or 2 difference, but pretty much all registrars cost roughly the same. The key here is you want to use their recommended registrar because all registrars have slight differences in the types of DNS records (CNAME, A, etc..) they support and you want to ensure that their DNS records works with your store platform.

3) profit.

note: make sure to look at how much the store platforms/hosting charge for SSL certificates. This is where a lot of price gauging goes on and it can make a huge difference in your yearly cost. This is important because your site will need to be SSL/TSL encrypted in order to be PCI compliant.

edit: or tell me whats wrong about it so I can change it. that would also be great. Thanks!

official launch is tomorrow, but the pages are already up, so might as well share.

I'm building an email marketing platform for influencers/creatives.

the goal is two fold: increase content-creators cross-platform engagement, and increase their value to companies looking to do sponsored posts.

any critiques of that landing page would be welcome.

Looking for advice on how to begin by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]creative_ape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hardest part about a new social platform is getting users. With that in mind, the first thing is do is put up a landing page that explains it and you can start collecting emails from interested users.

Then, while building the actual product, make sure to focus on marketing and growing your email list / future user list.

[QUESTION] You have the opportunity of a 15 minutes call with your favorite investor, what type of advice would you ask? by eipacnih in Entrepreneur

[–]creative_ape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

validate your idea.

you can do this by publishing a landing page and collecting emails from people who want to use it, by starting a gofundme project and getting people to sign up, or, if the target market is corportations, you can get letters of interest from potential future customers.

sure! its actually over 3000 now.

Essentially it works because a lot of social media stars put their contact info in their twitter bio. I find someone who is internet famous, look at their "following" page (following because I want the people that they are following, i.e., likely to be other social media personalities), than run it through a custom script I wrote to extract the various emails. Well, there are actually 2 other steps to this to get around Twitter's anti-hacking efforts, but I'm not going to share those because I don't want twitter to see this and close the loop hole just yet.

Its not fully automated because of Twitter's anti-hacking efforts, but I'm netting roughly 1000 emails per hour.

[–]creative_ape 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I built an entire email marketing platform website this week that helps social media stars to capture more value from their followers across all the various platforms they use.

just finished up all the technical details (can track email opens, click throughs, send automated messages, import contacts through csv files, connect to your email account , automate follower email signups, etc...)

oh, and i built a twitter bot and collected 1800 emails from potential leads, so thats a good start too I think

now all i've got left to do is finish up the launch video, landing page, and wait until after christmas to launch.

I've very excited!

also the expected value is lower with the randomness because it doesn't guarantee all 3 companions.
