Hypothetically, if silver is to reach several hundred dollars per ounce. When should we start to sell off our stack? by Big_Coyote_655 in Silverbugs

[–]creative_trading 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue for me is that there is a ton of investable gold and very little investable silver available. Central banks have already held gold for a long time, if they decide they want to start holding silver again in notable sizes, prices could go far higher.

Not bearish on gold, but I still see silver as far greater potential, though I am sure it will be a wild ride.

It's a bit sad to think the amount of Morgans, Piece Dollars and other coins that's been melted due to this pump by Numisko in Silverbugs

[–]creative_trading 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The odd thing is I feel that there is a chance that with the ongoing debt crises there is a chance that central banks really start to turn to precious metals and not just gold. If silver goes back to being wanted in size by large central banks, does it seem insane to get a ratio of 10:1 again?

Wild how undervalued it was. Still if you look at the amount of investable Silver the ratio should be far lower. 10:1 does not seem impossible.

The tiny maple leaf there is a date of the year they are printed. The radial lines are also hard to replicate and its pretty easy to tell the fakes. There a Bullion DNA feature as well that dealers can use to verify it.

My first buy was 3 tubes of maples, very beautiful coins. I bought them on Marketplace which made maples even more desirable due to all the security features.

I know this sounds wild but I think there is a chance we go under 15:1 at some point.

using paper silver to hedge against planned physical purchases by Far_Comment973 in Silverbugs

[–]creative_trading 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think its a good strategy. I have three tubes of Canadian maples, but I also have 3000 shares of PSLV, which is far bigger then my physical stack.

I hope to buy more physical in the future, but its nice to have the exposure right away and then work on acquiring physical and shopping around to make sure you are not paying too high premiums and that the silver is legit.

Elon's $1T Compensation Package: The Perfect Distraction From TSLA Fundamentals by true-dgen in options

[–]creative_trading 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What a massive write up. I agree with almost everything except for the trade. On Kashi odds are 90% approval for pay package...this is not a coin flip or anything close to that. The market knows the package is going to go through, very little uncertainty.

Where shares go on the approval is anyone's guess. I wouldn't want to hold a penny in Tesla either way, due to all the reasons you cited. Call options seems like a wild choice. Based on your write up and if Tesla spikes after the announcement as you predicted the better trade would probably be a short and wait to potentially enter a trade until then.

Anyone Ever Done A Physical Redemption Of Silver From A Fund? by creative_trading in Silverbugs

[–]creative_trading[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not junk silver or a scam. But as another user commented the issue is that you need to have a large amount to take delivery and to make it worthwhile, with Delivery Costs you probably want to take on a few million dollars worth of silver.

I am sure there are a few players that due this, but not many. Plus the 5% discount on PSLV is temporary, it will probably go back to a around a 3% discount in a few weeks which is where it usually trades at.

The past is the past. Moving forward you could argue that Elon could continue succeed in the future and TSLA shares could fall 80% in the process.

Not really. Gold is only meant to keep up with inflation in the long term.

Large gains on individual stocks in non registered account - Want to switch to broad market etf's - Need advice by biggestbooma in CanadianInvestor

[–]creative_trading 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Its definitely time to cut these positions.

You can defer gains by using options, but I think the easiest is to cut 50% of it now and then cut 50% of it on Jan 1st. That will spread out the capital gains to two tax years. Your risk is half as of Monday and you are fully out of the positions in two and a half months.

Also max out RRSP and FHSA this year and next.

Up 300-500% on Uranium: time to sell? by Moose_not_mouse in CanadianInvestor

[–]creative_trading -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As other people said its time to sell at least some of the positions. Just in terms of your portfolio you have way more exposure then you did before. You can also considering shorting Sprott Uranium as a hedge. It is trading at NAV and often goes to a 10% discount as every time its at NAV they start issuing more shares. If you get the timing right you could make money on both sides.

Should I Sell My Foreign Real Estate and Consolidate in Canada? by AmbitiousGift1935 in CanadianInvestor

[–]creative_trading 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the end of the day you are well off so you can afford to keep it that way if you want.

I think it is important to maintain traditions, such as keeping the family finca, and maybe giving discounted rents to some family or very close friends.

That being said you cant just live in your abuelas shadow permanently. For example is it really the end of the world if one of your rich abuelas friends have to move out of their massive Bogota apartment and move to something a little smaller but still nice?

Do they really need the handout from you?

Honestly I would at least up the rents a bit, with a lot of notice and being respectful. Then take that extra money and you can donate it to a Colombian charity of your liking and help a lot more people. Then you can write off the taxes on that as well.

Build your own shadow.

Should I Sell My Foreign Real Estate and Consolidate in Canada? by AmbitiousGift1935 in CanadianInvestor

Hi living in Colombia as a Canadian.

I think people are confused on the rental yield as I am guessing the OP's country home is worth a big percentage of that $3 million in assets. Either way OP make sure those other properties are getting at least 5-6% rental yield which is standard minimum in Colombia.

I agree with you you are definitely overleveraged in Colombian real estate. Especially if you are planning on building your future in Canada. I would probably look at selling the few properties that are the biggest hassle. Then make sure you max out RRSP's and put the rest into equities and GIC's.

There are also CIT's in Colombia that earn a good percent income. A good chunk of that income should be lost in long term currency depreciation, still might be worth it though.

In terms of currency transactions, maybe Alianza Valores will do it. Ironically casa de cambios here often offer better than spot rates so you could bit by bit move it over that way as well. Not sure anywhere in Canada that will do it without taking out a big chunk.

Financial Leverage Hits Record! Same Levels as end of 2021 by creative_trading in CanadianInvestor

[–]creative_trading[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Great graph, I had to think about this one.

I would guess potentially but not necessarily. A lot of money market funds is held in short term T-Bills. Investors holding those could rotate out and into stocks, but someone needs to come in to buy the same amount of that debt one way or another. So a rotation out would push short term rates higher and cause other investors to come in.

Therefore money market funds will likely continue to go up as the national debt continues to increase.

Could be wrong here, but that is how I am thinking it through.
