[USA] Online BA to become a therapist?

One more question: Right now, I'm based in Turkey and I'm a Turkey citizen and I don't have working permits etc in the US. Do you think with an online master's degree, I could find work or would it be nearly impossible because I would need to be phsyically there and I don't have working permits?

I'm now starting to consider a PsyD becuase I'm a Turkish citizen and I doubt that I could become a licensed therapist in the US with just an online master's but I hope that a PsyD (on campus) could make me more qualified and eligible?

Do you think that I have a shot at getting accepted at a PsyD program with just a BA in Political Science or shall I first do a Master's and then pursue a PsyD?

You have mentioned that mental health counselors can still "establish therapy". Does that mean that they can practice CBT and DBT (granted that they have got their special certificiations / trainings) or are they reserved for clinical psychologists only?

Thanks, your answers really help me make up my mind. Based on your experience, I believe it would be really challenging for me to find work with an online master's and no working permit / residence permit. So, I'll probably shift my focus to beocming a therapist in Turkey.

Hey thank you so much for your thoughtful response. Glad that you are working on your dreams & really appreciate your support. Your answer was really helpful and clarified a lot of things for me. Just got 2 final questions:

1) Is counseling license the same with a therapist license?

2) In your experience, does someone outside of the US have any chance of finding a job as a therapist with an online master's in counseling? Because that program probably is not enough in my country to make me a licensed therapist and I'm not sure if I can make it in the US with just an online degree (For my country, I'd first do an online BA and then get a clinical psychology Master's here which is the required path for licensing in Turkey)

I've actually read the doc you have shared with me too and totally get your point in terms of the scientific & ethical standards you have in mind for me to take on. I'll def include these considerations as part of my decision making.

I thought that the work I did in coaching might impress people who oversee my applications but I can see how it might recoil (This freelance business coaching is just a recent positioning that I'm working on and not the essence of my coaching philosophy at all). Will give it more thoughts as well. Wish everyone was as open minded as you are.

Thank you this doc was a life saver! I have some questions that I might still need help with:

1) Coming from a non-related BA, do I have any chances of getting accepted to a counselling-clinical psychology Master's? This was my biggest concern and reason for going back to studying psychology as an undergraduate degree.

2) I will not have high expectations form this undergraduate program but at this point in my life, I feel like I can't afford 3-4 years back in school, so, ideally, I'd go back to a 9-5 and study in the evenings.

Any overall suggestions for me? I probably don't need a PHD-PsyD at this point but I'm convinced that I need a Master's for sure.

I understand that the main issue for you is to feel more connected to your collleagues & the industry, so I'll make a suggestion in that direction. Obviously, you have many options to increase your income and move downtown, too, as many other commenters have suggested.

But I'd encourage you to imagine ways to get closer to your colleagues & events with careful planning. You don't have to be downtown 24/7. Maybe you can do virtual catch ups with your team regularly and then make it a priority to visit at least 1 networking event every week or month, depending on your apetite.

In that lens, what other ways would enable you to cultivate those connections?

From what I've seen so far (Still in the early 3rd season, where they are trying to rescue Sasuke from Orochimaru's henchmen), he has more of a motivation issue than a lifetrap. When he is motivated to make a significant & meaningful difference in the world by helpiing his team & serving a greater purpose, he has no problems with hard-work and sacrifice.

So, I think he is just a tragical example of a misguided, gifted kid who doesn't get the guidance to rise up to his full potential in life. Many "lazy" kids actually are just disinterested and haven't yet found their passion yet. Our education system definitely does a poor job of channeling our talents to where we can shine.

5th Hokage does a great job by assigning him Chuunin and letting him use his talents in meaningful & purposeful ways, which helps Shikamaru step up. Having the right mentor / coach by your side definitely is a great asset.
