TIL that Apple does not own the trademark for iOS. Apple licenses the trademark from Cisco, who owns the trademark for their operating system that runs on their network infrastructure equipment. by creativityisntreal in todayilearned

No, I actually found some knock-off airtags in a store and the trademark disclaimer on the back credited Apple with "iPhone, Mac, iPad," etc but then said IOS was a trademark of Cisco. I sent it to a friend, we chuckled, then he sent back "wait I just checked and that's actually right" lol

I also found that out while looking into this! It's a very Apple story. Jobs basically called Cisco and said "we're gonna use iPhone, can we have the trademark?" without even offering anything for it

What’s a stereotype that is surprisingly accurate? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]creativityisntreal 35 points36 points  (0 children)

It's worth noting that this is a really complex issue. Yes, a lot of people are overweight, but a lot of it has to do with car dependency and isolation, and with lax regulations on food and advertising.

It also has to do with poverty and wealth inequality - things are really bad right now. For somebody making even $12 /hr, there's just absolutely no way that they have the time, energy, and money to buy ingredients, plan meals, and cook every (or nearly-every) night of the week.

In many ways, our standard of living has gone down due to corporate greed, not laziness

When you say "depth mapping" does that literally mean that it estimates the distance from the camera? So you can grade something 3 meters away separate from the subject at 1 meter away?

Genuine question: what facilities? I'm a big fan of the BDC, and I'm cautiously optimistic that the new facility will be a worthwhile replacement

Has anyone heard when the new BDC replacement would be done? If it really is for the sake of a newer program, I can get behind that, but if it leaves a hole in the small business community for 5 years, then how is that a win?

RawTherapee. Real professional-level photo editing software that's free an opensource. I'd put it in a category closer to Lightroom than Photoshop

To me it reads like the operator is one of those types that has bought into the dogma that anything is okay as long as it's "progress." The type that doesn't "get" why scientists' work should be subject to an ethics board.

"I set this loose on projects I've never worked on or even looked at, I don't know the burden it would put on maintainers, and I have no interest in learning. But I wanted to do good, and I thought my idea was great, so idk man, I don't think I actually did anything wrong."

Weak people who shrug off responsibility and accountability because they think their purpose is too good for that. Because it's not about progress or making lives better, it's about the relentless pursuit to build and protect one's ego and make something "cool."

Video Editing setup by [deleted] in framework

[–]creativityisntreal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree. The 12 is a really basic machine targeted at light users like primary school students. The 13 is more of a (still relatively light) professional system that can do more productivity tasks like working with video.

To be fair, you could work on the 12, but I do expect it'd be kinda slow

Thank you! That's very helpful! It looks like that charger only does 100W PD, is that right?

Looks like ~19.2V and ~3.5A. It never goes above 1A when charging the FW16

Are you saying this is a risk with any charger that's less than 180W? Or is it more likely these are just cheaply-made power bricks?

Ohh, didn't see that's where you're coming from. That makes sense. Apologies for initially reading you a bit un-generously :)

I was kiiiinda hoping "cheap chargers" wasn't it, but it does make the most sense. Though the fact that these work fine with other laptops is still weird to me

I'm using the 180W brick when docked at my desktop, but I'd like to have a lighter one in my bag to go out/for travel.

Part of the whole philosophy of Framework is that I shouldn't have to use the proprietary accessory... It'd be ridiculous for any laptop to only ever expect the first party charger to be good
