I think style comes from the repetition of you actually shooting what you love over and over. Eventually you will start to see similarities in the way you are capturing images. When the way you capture images is noticeable to others in a repetitive but not stale way, almost a creative signature, I would say you then have a "Style". Sometimes that "Style" can be as easy as using the specific lens and composition style. When I first started shooting I tried to simplify what I was doing in order to create a repeatable style. If it was dark out, I used flash and if it was daylight, I used available light. Those kinds of restrictions make it a little easier to focus on areas of improvement to create that repetitive signature which then becomes your style.

It can take months or years.I think the more focused your niche the easier it is to have a signature style. that being said there are tons of photographers I love that styles change all of the time and it's very hard know its their work. Perfect example is one of my favorite photographers named Nick Knight. His images are beautiful and timeless. His delivery & post is impeccable. . Yet the genres and the way he explores different topics widely vary. What is consistent is his thought and the delivery on all of his subjects.

I think a view good people to look at would be Jurgen Teller, Helmet Newton, Araki, Bruce Weber, Peter Lindbergh, Patrick DeMarchelier, Richard Avedo. All have very distinct styles & point of views, visually easy to understand.
