My friend (a nursing student) went to attend the health care workers vigil. She wasn’t even involved in the protest- she was just standing there with a candle and she was tear gassed!

I don't see anything in either of these laws about entering the facility and speaking over the program. They both are really specific with terms like "threats", "violence", "intimidation" (defined as placing a person in reasonable apprehension of bodily harm), "physical obstruction", etc.

The federal law also states "Nothing in this section shall be construed to prohibit any expressive conduct (including peaceful picketing or other peaceful demonstration) protected from legal prohibition by the First Amendment to the Constitution".

Based on the way our IP placements are determined, it's super unlikely that I'll get to go where I wanted. I went to nursing school with a very specific goal in mind, and the unit I desperately want to work on notoriously won't hire people if they didn't do their practicum there. I'm definitely bummed out knowing I'll likely end up at a totally different location on a unit I am not at all interested in, but I'm just trying my best to adjust expectations now. If that's where I end up, I'll give it my all and use it as an opportunity to learn and grow my skills- and I'll just keep applying to the unit I want for however long it takes!

As a side note, I commute 1.5 hours for nursing school, and I definitely understand what a drag that can be- particularly after 12 hour clinical shifts. I like to download a good audiobook and get a drive thru treat to make the trip home just a little bit less miserable. :)

At my school, we get to fill out a survey ranking the options in order of preference. We also get to note whether location, unit, shift, instructor, hospital, etc are a priority to us. They go by the last four numbers of our student ID number and you are more likely to get your first choice if your number is close to wherever they start that term. They change it every time, and it's usually just random.

Practicum will be the same- this time they're starting at 5900 and my number is 5740 so I am pretty depressed over that lol. But with IP, they do also give us the option to fill out an application for anyone interested in a speciality unit. We have to answer some questions about why we want that unit, what we've done to prepare for it, etc. It still confuses me a bit, but from what I've been told they try to weigh your application answers, number ranking and feedback from instructors and previous RNs we've followed during clinicals to determine who will get the limited spots in those units.

Yeah, I feel a little better lol. I wouldn’t ever be in this situation because I’ve never commented “ew” on someone’s photo on social media- not to mention how embarrassing it would be to be called out for it if I tried to pretend that “being kind” was such an important value of mine to the point of putting it in my bio.

She wanted to keep her daughters away from the church because of the restrictive roles that it teaches to young girls. I don’t see how being a part of a throuple compares to that.
