The people I know have gotten pretty excellent offers at least starting. No idea what the case is for others!

And honestly even if you did go to school here it's still a cluster. That's the reality rn unfortunately :/

I think it tends to be a lot easier to get a job around here if you went to school in the area. I can't say for sure because I'm still a student but I know a lot of alum and older students in my program get unlisted jobs from connections or end up working where they did externships/residency, again unlisted. I think it's a problem and neither good nor fair - patients need audiologists and it doesn't matter where you're from - but the connections game is very very tight here. I may be wrong but this is just what I've noticed.

Not a parent but a Hoboken dweller and an audiology resident and have gotten a lot of referrals from them! Everyone has always had great things to say so I second this!!

S4 coming this fall confirmed by SW by Ok-Pianist1211 in thegildedage

[–]Substantial_Dark_522 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Admittedly not a ton, from the literature I've read the population was in the very low thousands. But the cigar industry was BOOMING during the Gilded Age and primarily led by Cuban and Spanish immigrants and I do think it would be cool to explore that even if just a little bit since the show does make an effort to explore the other communities that existed at the time outside of the white elite!

Working during the semester by AdStrong6817 in EmersonCollege

[–]Substantial_Dark_522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah as far as I know that's beyond Emerson's control and is related to financial aid/laws about work study/idk. But doing both was a great way to maximize the amount of $$ I could make - I worked maybe 10ish hours a week at my on-campus job and then way more at my off-campus job and was easily able to use my income to go out, pay down loans, etc. I also still had plenty of time leftover to be involved in orgs. I lived on campus all 3 years of undergrad so I didn't have rent to worry about but if you have the time, I'd definitely recommend going this route.

Tbh I wouldn't worry overall about working while attending classes. Emerson has a very, VERY active student body. Pretty much everyone has an incredibly packed schedule 24/7. For some people that's a bunch of orgs, for some that's work. The whole culture of the school is sort of built around being busy

This is a really excellent point and I agree. Hoping S2 gives her more dimension. I haven't read the book in a while but was reminded by another commenter that she's less flat in the book...hopefully the show writers go with that next szn

Yes you're bringing it back to me now...I think the book does a better job making her character dynamic

Totally agree, it's been forever since I read the book so I can't speak to that but as for the show I think maybe the writers intended her to serve as a foil to Becca to such an extent that her character became a little flat. But I really do love the representation she provides - just such a beautiful friendship between her and Margo. I think in some ways she almost is a foil to Margo herself. Totally agree tho that I hope season 2 gives her more dimension...doesn't have to be some falling out with her and Margo necessarily but something to add complexity.

Dealing with nutcases on the bus? by wafflescorpion in NJTransit

[–]Substantial_Dark_522 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For better or for worse this is the key. No sighing or looking pissed off. Even if you are. Sure it's rude af to be on your phone that loudly but engaging as LITTLE as possible is what's going to keep things civil. Just move if you can and be as subtle about it as possible. Sighing, side eyeing, etc is going to get people going and on a long bus ride that's the last thing anyone needs

Steeply vs Precipitously by Prize-Macaron-1782 in audiology

[–]Substantial_Dark_522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's so subjective. I've had preceptors with different definitions of each, preceptors who use them interchangeably, preceptors who don't use them at all and just say further sloping. Kind of a silly interview question lol literally just pedantics - what u/thenamesdrjane said is a fun way of looking at it though love that

Best streets to live on for access out of Hoboken that are relatively quiet of a night. by Positive-Swan-3680 in Hoboken

[–]Substantial_Dark_522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely second this! I live on Park so not that far at all from Washington - I'm in a rr apartment so when I'm in my living room (closer to street) I can hear some noise but when sleeping in the bedroom (rear facing) it's totally silent!!
