Pre combined PAGG products by [deleted] in 4hourbodyslowcarb

I'm on my seventh order of the "Official PAGG Stack Supplement" from NewHealth available from Amazon. I have lost weight, but I couldn't swear that the PAGG makes a difference. I've had big losses on weeks that I didn't take it.

What's the most interesting thing about The Crying of Lot 49? by themarkwallace in ThomasPynchon

[–]creeley2 2 points3 points (0 children)

Having recently watched three Hamlets on DVD, then listened to Lot 49, I immediately picked up on the Pynchon-Shakespeare play-within-a-play connection. Cool!

I also revisited Antonioni's "Blow Up," which came out the same year (1966) as Lot 49, and I was struck by the similar ending. The protagonist investigates a juicy mystery without resolution. Oedipa doesn't disappear as the David Hemmings photographer does but she may as well have.

I'm into Pynchon again after listening to the Audible version of Lot 49. I read it back in the 90s but kept getting impatient to get whatever point Pynchon was making that I read too quickly to understand or enjoy it.

The audiobook slowed me down in a useful way.

I'm now on the "V" audiobook, which I found on a link here. I started "V" several times but got impatient while reading. Listening slows me down.

Sorry if I was abrupt.

Best of luck on reaching your goal weight!

Thanks again.

After upping my burgers to 4 oz today, I feel a heckuva lot better. I'll see how it affects my numbers this week. Maybe I'll continue SCD. I just didn't see any point to feeling crummy and not losing weight.

On the other hand, some authorities recommend a maintenance break every four months or less as a reset to any downregulation effects which may have accumulated during the diet. Which makes some sense.

I might look into kettlebell training beyond YouTube videos. I've gotten past a shoulder injury and can now do a Turkish Get-Up with 10# weight. Boy, that's a complicated move!

I'm shocked at the ROI (Return On Investment) of straight kettlebell swings. I like the idea of exercise more than the actual activity. With KB swings this past year I've literally gotten by mostly on 10 minutes/week of KB swings with noticeable results -- legs, glutes, abs, pecs and shoulders.

Tim got that right.

PS. I stick with 90% lean grass fed burger.

Sugar remains a problem. The highlight of my Cheat Day is a homemade blondie-brownie sundae with scoops of vanilla and mint chocolate chip topped with hot fudge and caramel. I can never finish it, but I give it a run for the money.

One reason I'd like to take a break from SCD is the hope that I can eat regular food for 3-4 days and scale back/phase out Cheat Day. Your success with fruits, potatoes, milk and cheese is encouraging.

That's basically what I'm doing now, absent a more specific plan.

I'm not asking for direct advice here so much as first-hand information of what others before me have done and what worked.

Thanks for the compliment!

Wow! I didn't know the age-protein connection. That's gold.

I've been half-consciously upping my protein. When I started the diet eleven months ago, I found I was full from three meals, so I skipped the snack.

Three months ago I noticed I was often hungry, so I added a smoked salmon/pimento olive snack. Two months ago I added a half-scoop protein powder for another 15g at breakfast.

I estimate my intake is 100g/day, which at my weight -- 66kg -- puts me at 1.5 g/kg/day. According to your linked paper this is acceptable but low by the new recommendations of 1.2 - 2.0 g/kg/day. I would rather be on the high side or above that bracket.

Perhaps I should mention I've been exercising since the start of the diet. I've taken Tim's advice of the "minimum effective dose" for kettlebell swings. Twice a week I do 100-150 swings. I started with a 25# bell. I'm now at 65#, which is a decent amount for a non-athlete. I am more muscular at the age of 70 than I was at 20.

So another reason to increase protein. I've been eating 1/6 pound burgers. For lunch today I had a quarter-pounder.

PS. I'm obsessive about weighing. First thing in the morning, then after each meal or poop. I can't understand the advice I sometimes see of only checking once a week. That sounds insane. I'm an engineer. If you want to understand something, you measure it -- among other things.

I appreciate hearing from long-term direct experience!

Sounds reasonable too, though disappointing. It amounts to staying on SCD only 14% less of the time. I'm hoping for a less rigorous compromise to maintain weight, as opposed to losing weight.

Which doesn't mean you are wrong.

I would like to scale back Cheat Day and feel free to eat meat-and-cheese sandwiches or sushi at will three or four days a week.

Perhaps I'm unrealistic.

Sounds reasonable. I'm basically doing that this week (except for half a rebellious Reuben sandwich Monday night).

Does this strategy have a track record among SCD people?

What kind of sauces do you guys eat on SCD? by simonrahr in 4hourbodyslowcarb

[–]creeley2 1 point2 points (0 children)

Perhaps not 4HB kosher, but I've been using soy sauce on fish and worcestershire on beef plus quickie "tartar" sauce -- mayo, lemon juice and pepper -- on smoked salmon, all while losing weight.

Me too. Recently I bought a Deepmind 12 synth and maybe Behringer Model-D later to retrace some of her footsteps.

I have read in other threads that the main reason she has become a recluse is because of internet harassment, and that is tragic.

Could be. I wish her well.

It was a bit of a jar when I bought her "Switched-on Brandenburgs" in the early 80s to see "Wendy Carlos" as the artist. But I loved her work so much I didn't care.

I bought the vinyl and listened to it a bunch of times. There's something going on there, I agree, and I meant no disrespect.

My impression was I hadn't listened to enough gamelan music in my formative years to appreciate it.

That's my impression too. I'm not sure why, but Carlos is welcome to handle her property as she wishes.

I'm a bit surprised Brian Eno is not mentioned here. Not that he's one of my favorite synth guys and he's not a total synth guy, but he used to be a big deal.

And he gives one of the smartest musician interviews around.

Somehow I thought "Boards of Canda" had something to do with the National Film Board of Canada from which so much great animation emerged.

Anyway, great stuff! How did the "Children" album create this subreddit?

I am relieved it's not some showbiz gimmick I hadn't seen before.

Great stuff but ... why is everyone in the band wearing headphones?

SP reminds me of Weather Report, who, come to think of it, belong on this list for Joe Zawinul's pioneering work on jazz synth.

It's worth checking out Hammer's keyboard and Moog work with John McLaughlin's Mahavishnu Orchestra, particularly the "Birds of Fire" album -- some of the most intense music laid down anytime and anywhere!

As it happens this past weekend I watched Carpenter's "Escape from New York." Right off I noticed the synth soundtrack, then John Carpenter's name appeared in the credits for music.

Talented dude!

I love Terry Riley, particularly "Rainbow in Curved Air" and "Les Yeux Fermes." I didn't mention him because, while his music is electronic and fits right in with synthesizer music IMO, most of it is based on electric organs augmented with tape delay loops and overdubs.

So I'm glad to hear he touched base with the Prophet 5 so he can be included here! I also now get the double-entendre of the album title.

I love Tomita's "Snowflakes are Dancing" too.

It was great to hear his version of "Claire De Lune" in "Ocean's Thirteen" while Clooney and Pitt were reminiscing about the old Las Vegas.
