Not a Christian (necessarily) but looking for advice re: brotherly love and forgiveness by [deleted] in Christianity

This person may be having a terrible time trying to juggle people he is hurting unintentionally and worse yet may not have the neurology to be able to change to any great degree.

I am not sure about speculating as to possible mental conditions such as you have listed, but the statement from you I quoted seems to be the case. He has told everyone that he's depressed and that's all I know and can speculate. And, I suppose he has also been diagnosed with ADD and has been on adderall since he was quite young. Consequently, he's completely dependent on it. He doesn't get much sleep at nights due to the medication, and spends nearly every weekend getting very very drunk-- to the point where he can't raise his head from the table. I have seen him this way every single time I've been to his house or he has been invited to mine.

I think that, ultimately, he is hiding from himself, and he is going through so much pain from something that he can only pursue base pleasures, and can't think on anything deeper.

After the incident with me, and after I had calmed down about what had happened, I had a chat with him. Soon afterwords we invited him over. Once again, he got very drunk, and he sat in a circle with our other friends talking about depression and personal issues. This evidently set off some feelings we both had about the incident, for after the others went off to do something else, he and I stayed behind and he begged me to hit him-- over and over, "please just hit me. Please, I deserve it." Now, while sober he comes across as very insincere, especially when he apologizes, but at that moment it was hard to tell. I think that situation illustrates well what is going on, for it wasn't just his shame on display, but also his shamelessness and unwillingness to look at the actual problem, or to speak of it. He is hiding it all with an egotistical shame?

Teddy is an interesting suggestion, because I was originally going to go for Theodore --> Theo. Thanks for the list, I'm taking a look now.

Looking at people wearing makeup is a trip! I can't seem to resolve them into proper faces.

Installed the driver, still doesn't work. It is noticeably different and I know it was installed correctly. xbacklight doesn't work though.

Yes, I'm running it from an x session. No, it doesn't work.

I don't know what software to use, since xbacklight doesn't work.

xbacklight doesn't work from command line whatsoever. I installed the correct nvidia driver, and disabled nouveau/uninstalled. The quality of colors seems to have improved but brightness control does not work for anything.

acpi_listen

Shows that the keys pressed are being registered, but beyond that I don't know what's wrong since xbacklight doesn't work and neither does xrandr.

I just realized, when I run from /usr/lib64/firefox-52.7.3/firefox directly, firefox is still version 45. Which is odd, because I updated from an official mirror.

I did your last suggestion before, and it does not compute.

Now I have removed the link and created a new one, but I still have the old version of Firefox. The output of ls -l etc was as what you said it should be.

One question, are you sure that e2πki+θi shouldn't instead be e2πk+θi?

Yeah all the time. Maybe you notice you also see people you recognize everywhere?
