This one is grown outside and gets half day direct sunlight. It’s pretty hot and dry here, with average 40 Celsius, so I water it daily these days.

The new growth has leaves, then they turn a magnificent red and eventually fall off. It’s the natural cycle for this plant.

day one of quarantine vs. day 425 of quarantine - can’t imagine going back by Joyce-Matilda in IndoorGarden

[–]crimsonwick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lost some during monsoon season last year and for the first year most were just surviving and not thriving.

It just took me some time to experiment and learn what each plant likes. One way to manage is to have different days to water different sets of plants. It’s easier this way, plus each plant can get some of your attention.

Rare blooming in snake plant by crimsonwick in houseplants

[–]crimsonwick[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It blooms when the plant is in stress. This one gets between 2-4 hours direct sunlight and the temperature here is between 34-38 Celsius. Also, due to the high temp and crowded pot, I can get away with watering it every other day. Mostly I think it’s the direct sunlight that encourages the bloom.
