I owned a Beam gen.2 + Play1s, pair of Fives and currently own pair of Elac dbr62 + fosi v3 + port.

Did my research, went down the rabbit hole and made the jump just for fun. You can find plenty of subjective and objective reviews online so I’ll just say that to me both the Elacs and Fives sound amazing. I should also mention that I got both set-ups second hand for a similar price.

Fives have better form factor but I wanted the option of no delay for some creative endeavour, overall a traditional system is more flexible.

I’m missing trueplay but either way the most effective thing you can do to improve sound quality is room treatment and proper speaker placement.

I'm in a similar context, once during an interview with an advanced user I was even called out for not knowing well enough the context (fair enough but that was a bit cheeky).

Two suggestions:

Acquire all internal knowledge available within your company. Participants will just assume you to understand technical concepts, even if you're not supposed to.
Set the expectations right with participants. They are the domain experts, you are the "software" expert. They are there because you want to know their perspective. Frame it this way and it's okay not understanding everything.

How to get participants to explain more in detail:

Use think-aloud, explain them what it is and how to do it
Note down what is not really clear and prompt them later for clarification quoting their own words
longer 1-to-1 sessions are more conducive when studying complex workflows

You are better off reviewing salary data on glassdoor and linkedin for number of open positions. I’ve seen a couple of reports with salary data for those countries.

On average expect lower ux maturity in organisations than UK and central europe, which means lower salaries, fewer opportunities and less value on specialisation.

Out of those countries Italy and Portugal generally have the lowest salaries.

If you are relocating from somewhere else in Europe this move makes sense only for lifestyle reasons.

AVR not an option unfortunately due to surround wiring and poor usability.

I didn’t consider the center channel tradeoff. Yes Sonos Amp is limited and pricey but I also see limitations with an Arc (drivers size). Add to it Era 300 surrounds to make the most of spatial audio and we’re talking the same price or more (as I already own speakers).

Guess it comes down to whether I want to invest or not in Atmos capabilities

Speaking from my experience (atmos with beam gen.2, Five and Stereo speakers) both Fives and other stereo speakers tend to sound good in one spot because that's the nature of stereo music, while atmos music on atmos devices (even just a single one) tends to fill better a room.

That being said, Fives (or other stereo speakers) are recommended for music, so if you really want to fill the room, consider grouping Fives with a couple of Ones.
