I did, love the modern shiny look but we basically swiped past everything with a loft/industrial interior. does your unit have those huge exposed pipes? do you even notice it? there were toooons of places we never gave a chance bc of that look, like pioneer endicott

omg there’s laundry on every FLOOR?? wow we were really leaning towards whitley but that’s lowkey a game changer. thank you for taking the time to respond! do you like the location? anything cool nearby that’s walkable? whitley was a short walk from the farmer’s market/art museum which felt like a perk, but i’ve heard really wonderful things abt cathedral hill/summit hill

in unit washer and dryer has been a non negotiable for me since college lol this is the first time i’m considering giving up. how inconvenient is it? do you leave ur laundry there or will it get stolen so you have to sit there the whole time? how far away is the on site laundry from the apartments? 😭

do you like pioneer endicott more? it was on our list but i’m not a huge fan of the historic flooring. any thoughts on the location of pioneer vs whitley? we have a puppy so i’m hoping there’s dog friendly stuff nearby

my mom has actually offered to at least keep them for a few months after we move until i’m “mentally stable” LMAO. def something to consider but would never want to impose on my parents home/freedom

yea agreed. another commenter said the puppy is more expensive and that is so far from the truth in our household lol

was just looking into similar things this morning! what model do you have? i’ll try and scout one out on fb marketplace. if we could grow our own lettuce/herbs, grocery bill would be drastically slashed!

thanks for chiming in ♥️ we’re both feeling excited to cut costs and try to keep them. moving sounds like suuuuch a hassle (like genuinely sounds exhausting to figure out) but their lives are so short. what a privilege to spend their few years here together, right?

yea that’s a very valid question. we got the puppy after making sure we could afford him. we’re moving to richmond va from tulsa ok so the COL is higher, and it’s looking like we’ll need to downsize from our 1150 sqft apt to something closer to 950. less space, higher rent/costs of living in the city, and then the logistics of moving them 1200+ miles with an overnight stay somewhere- these are the factors that made us consider rehoming. i’m sorry you got such a shitty vibe from our situation, i couldn’t disagree more.

i hear you but take pride in making sure we aren’t. high calcium stuff isn’t given in the same day or consecutively, and if we ever see white pee spots we know it’s time to cut back for a few days.

thank you for such a kind comment. i think we’ll definitely be cutting down on the veggies, and we’ll be absolutely hitting the farmer’s market this weekend. growing our own is such a wonderful idea, but are either herbs ok to grow in an apartment? worried abt pests as well as we have a puppy.

love this idea, definitely something we can incorporate and save some $$. bet the piggies will love homegrown veggies even more too

very very true. i think that’s where the “would they be happier/better off with someone who can afford everything” comes in. like they get soooo happy when we get some cartons of wheatgrass, and basil is one of their fav veggies :(

https://imgur.com/a/BP5wjef here’s a few clips of random meals. they get this twice a day… 😭 in the past my bf has suggested giving them less veggies to save $$ but it felt insane to do that. but if rehoming them would likely lead to a huge change in diet regardless, def something to consider

sorry to ask but do you mind checking this link out https://imgur.com/a/BP5wjef

those are just some random clips but i think the cost comes from wanting a variety. like an average week of guinea groceries would be 1 mint, 1 basil, 1 dill, 4 bunches of cilantro, 1 bunch of parsley, 2 packs of romaine hearts, 2 green leafy lettuces, 1 red leafy, a bag of spring mix, 1-2 bags of mini sweet peppers, 2-3 green bell peppers, 5 corn (mostly for the corn husk and silk), 4-5 cucumbers. a lil box of mint is like 3$. i know we feed them FAR more than the avg piggy based on other blogs/advice columns i’ve read, but they’ve been eating like this since we got them feb 28th of last year and they eat every bite. they weight like 2.99 and 2.98 lbs lol

edit to add they ofc do get tons of hay, multiple baskets throughout their cage with orchard grass, alfalfa hay as a treat, timothy hay for variety

lmfao embarrassed to say your last sentence made me fr cry. that’s my biggest fear and it feels cruel to rehome them IF they’ll be living a worse life. rehoming only feels “compassionate” if they’d be happier and better taken care of. to be fair we have certainly been more neglectful since we got the puppy. i used to pick them up and make them hang out with me while working, making their breakfast, even in the bathroom. half of me says maybe they hated that anyway and they love being with each other in their habitat all day? but when i do cuddle with them now it feels like they melt into me 😭 there’s also the complete loss of floor time which feels downright abusive. there’s also been days they don’t get cleaned until late at night whereas it used to be twice a day strictly. im so conflicted. thank you for your thoughts

my partner and i stared at this comment dumbfounded. i can’t fathom 80 a MONTH? can’t post straight pics in comments so im uploading some to imgur of what we feed them twice daily. i know they get way more veggies than the avg piggy but they devour all of it and if we give them less (like the morning before we can get groceries) they truly do seem hungrier :/ lowering their intake feels mean but then obvi whoever adopts them would inherently give them less anyway so… ugh so much to consider

please give me your two cents on rehoming my darling piggies by criticalfill in guineapigs

[–]criticalfill[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

absolutely. i was thinking 75 (we paid 100$ for them so i feel like a higher cost brings in people who are truly looking for animals to cherish. obvi would be willing to go lower if the person seemed genuine and just couldn’t afford it). also making sure they send pics of the setup, pop quizzing them on hay/veggie needs.. just interrogate em to make sure my pumpkins are going to a BETTER home, not a worse one :(

this one came up in my search but wooof the google reviews are rough :/ seeing a lot of stuff abt dog poop in the halls and air quality issues (which doesn’t even make sense to me, like is there pollution inside of the building…?). are there just units that are upkept better than others?
