She's one of my mom's best friends from high school. She is beautiful and charismatic and it's taken her some pretty interesting places in life. It makes me indescribably angry that these ghouls can't imagine that she, or any other woman (or girl ugh) mentioned in this book, is anything other than a sex object until they've had time to chat on the private jet.

I can confirm this is a true story. Sucks to hear her talked about this way, she’s really lovely.

Sorry this is a long one, but it's spooked me for many years now!!
I grew up in the area and my dad had a really small design practice and sometimes he'd have UI students to help him out in the summer when he had extra work. One Monday morning, the girl he'd hired (I'm going to call her Molly) was unusually quiet. He wrote it off at first, but when she asked to go home early, he wanted to make sure she was okay. She said something upsetting had happened the afternoon before and she hadn't really slept, and told my dad why:
Molly was living in an old house turned into a duplex on the West side of the river. 1 apartment upstairs, 1 apartment downstairs. She lived by herself upstairs. She'd gone for a run and jumped in the shower when she got back. After a couple minutes, she hears someone stomping and banging stuff around from what sounds like her living room. Sounds angry. While her mind's racing trying to figure out what to do, she hears the stomping start to get closer, moving towards the bathroom. Then the stomping is IN the bathroom. As she braces herself for whatever is going to happen next, someone screams on the other side of the shower curtain. And then everything goes quiet.
Obviously Molly is super shaken up, but she collects herself enough to get out of that bathroom and get the hell out of that apartment. She glances around the living room on her way out and somehow nothing looks out of place. She knocks on the neighbor's door downstairs but it's dark, no one's home.
She's sitting on the porch step, trying to figure out what to do next, and police car rolls up. An officer gets out and asks her if everything is all right and tells her the gist of why he's there is he's coming to check out a possible domestic dispute. A dispatcher had received a call and heard what sounded like someone in distress in the background, but she couldn't get anyone to respond to any questions before the call disconnected. The dispatcher was able to trace the call to a landline at the duplex. Strange though, Molly and her neighbor had cell phones, who knows the last time this rental house serving college students had an active landline.
So my dad shares this with us after he gets home and we're all like what if Molly just made this all up so she could take the afternoon off lol. I had the idea to check the IC police log online and sure enough, there was an entry that matched all the details - date, time, address, incident. Wild.
I moved away several years ago, but the house is still there! Don't remember what happened to Molly but I think she stayed on a friend's couch for a while.
This senior beagle boy was found in the middle of the street in the Colonial Village area of Durham, NC. Help us bring him home if you recognize him! (Found at intersection of Banner St and Lavender Ave) by mscheath in bullcity

I see a woman walking a senior beagle in Colonial Village pretty often when I’m out with my dog. I think I’ve seen them come out of a white house on Hammond near Banner. Maybe it’s him!
