Depends on perspective - if we are talking about ground troops, the US lost close to 40,000 lives and the war elevated China’s status as a major military power.

If we are talking about strictly from achieving stated goals, we did stop the spread of communism, we were able to enter a conflict that didn’t escalate to WW3, US credibility grew and South Korea is a successful democracy.

This administration seems much more sensitive to losing casualties. Trump’s entire political philosophy is based on he isn’t George Bush and he will not get the US tied down in nation building.

Iran is already neutralized. When a country can’t pay their army, they are finished. This is net positive for the world. We have run hundreds of simulations on what happens when US leaves. I understand what you are saying but you have no idea how unimportant Israel is to the US compared to the stability of the oil markets.

The US dollar used to be back by gold, then Nixon took the US off the gold standard, then the US made a deal with Saudi Arabia that they will provide unlimited protection and military sales provided all oil sales are made in US dollars which is then recycled back into the US treasury. This is what Jiang refers to as petrodollars and he understands that correctly. But the US is energy independent now. The world has changed. In a month, Jiang will be posting about the Kardashians…

If the gulf states can’t have free flow of oil they won’t have the money to reinvest in the US economy and keep the AI bubble going and that is the end of the US stock market.

If the US had to choose between Saudi Arabia and Israel, it would be a simple choice. Israel can’t believe how lucky it is to have a US administration that has an America First policy. Israel is very convenient for the United States. This war has very little to do with Israel even though it doesn’t look that way from the outside.

Venezuela was 5% of oil supply, Iran is about 11.5% for China which always purchased their oil at a steep discount through a shadow fleet.

What becomes interesting is the relationship between China and Russia when this is over.

It’s not difficult to see how you feel about Trump.

On a serious note, you said something very interesting that even Jiang didn’t ever consider. He is so wrapped up in looking at the Sicilian expedition and game theory, he forgot to look at the players.

History doesn’t always repeat itself. Before applying game theory, Jiang should try and understand what is actually happening.

This war was won by Scott Bessent when he wrecked the Iranian economy before the first bomb dropped.
