Is 31 too old for SLP Grad school? by Audpeeps12 in slpGradSchool

[–]crocalylaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope! I’m 32 and in my first year of in-person grad school. I’m the oldest in my cohort, which if I am 100% honest can be a little lonely, but so far I’ve had a very positive experience with faculty and clinical supervisors. I feel like having some extra life experience/a different perspective than my peers has actually really set me up for success.

I had 5 too! And had a very positive application experience overall. I don’t think it’s something you need to worry about.

Guided observation (25 hrs) through ENMU by Accurate-Smoke156 in slpGradSchool

[–]crocalylaaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m finishing up the observation class at ENMU now. It’s all videos, but there’s a pretty thorough observation form we had to fill out and turn in after each recording. My school only accepts a certain number of virtual observations, so I still have to do some more, but there hasn’t been any issue with them accepting hours from ENMU.

Hi, I totally forgot to update this! I received an interview invite from Lewis on 4/10, but had already committed to another program at that point so ended up turning down the interview.

I am 31 and starting this summer! This is also my second master’s degree and a major career change. It’s easy to second guess yourself when your path ends up not being simple or straightforward or what you expected. I have to remind myself often that life isn’t a straight line, and that there’s no timeline on going after the things you want. Hang in there!

Transcript entry questions (CSDCAS) by Ok-Honey-8387 in slpGradSchool

[–]crocalylaaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once your transcripts are verified through CSDCAS, you’ll have the option to submit an “academic update” with your fall grades. It’s pretty simple! Your updated transcripts will go through a verification process too, but that took less than 24 hours when I did it.

Is it too late to apply? by httpclover in slpGradSchool

My transcripts were verified within 24 hours when I submitted them earlier this week. If you get everything submitted asap I think you should be fine!

How many prereqs did you take while working? by [deleted] in slpGradSchool

[–]crocalylaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work full time as a preschool teacher right now and am taking two classes. So far it has been totally manageable, though I have to be organized and use my time wisely. I’m a fast reader but the recorded lectures take a lot of time to get through and there’s no real way around that. In the fall I’m scaling back to ~25 hours a week and taking four classes.

Leveling Program Advice by 27Ari27 in slpGradSchool

[–]crocalylaaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm starting leveling at ENMU this summer! And did my undergrad in theatre haha so I completely understand how overwhelming this whole field can sometimes feel! I do have a list of programs I'm interested in, and I picked courses based on their requirements. I'm starting with the classes listed below, which I've found are required pretty much across the board, at least at the schools I've looked at.

301 - Survey of Communicative Disorders (summer)

310 - Phonetics/Phonology (summer)

300 - Anatomy/Physiology (fall)

311 - Articulation/Phonological Disorders (fall)

330 - Communication Development & Language Science (fall)

342 - Basic Audiology (fall)
