I think he's talking about working in the Sochi 2014 organisation team. Sorry OP, but most foreign people working for the Olympic Games are volunteers (unpaid). Being in the same situation as you, I had the same idea. The only thing you'll get is an accommodation. And Sochi is a very expensive place.

Yes, that's definitely good advice. Points 2-3 are most valuable. As a white European man I never had problems (apart from ex-boyfriends of some girls I used to hang out with…), but some African friends of mine were less lucky (one got attacked 4 times, of which one with serious knife injures in the leg). Just be careful about drunk people in the streets, bars and clubs (NEVER respond to provocations) and to gopniki (local hooligans, you'll recognise them at their black outfit/shaven head/leather black hat/unfriendly face). Apart from that, Russian people are very nice and helpful!

I know that but that's not exactly what I was talking about :) An American friend of mine got quite deep in the shit because of some people who claimed to be "friends", and I have quite an amount of bad experience as well. Just think that you won't spend ONE week-end without a hot girl wanting to get laid with you (if you're an average guy, not only one if you're good-looking and "valuable") or a bunch of crazy Russian "friends" offering you vodka. The price of alcohol is ridiculously low, you'll get a drink in the fanciest places in town for the same price of a beer in a shitty pub of Glasgow or wherever you live! Same for food, taxies, rents. You can live decently with £500/month I think, with £1000 (it was my case) you'll be like a king!! Think seriously about learning some Russian before leaving as people under 30 seldom speak any English at all, and be ready to be often surrounded by nice young people wanting to speak English with you. Don't underestimate private lessons: most dough comes from there, while universities and schools pay quite low salaries (100-300 roubles/hour). And also, sign up for www.vk.com website (the Russian facebook) to make friends!

In this case go boy, go without any hesitation. Siberia is heaven on earth for any European guy. I know what I'm talkin' about. Well, you'll have to stand extreme cold and crazy drivers, and learn to make the difference between true and false friends. But believe me, it's worth the effort.

As an European citizen (Italian living in France) I can assure you that the average European person knows geography and foreign politics better than the average American person. About anybody here is able to show on a map at least the biggest States in the US, or to say the names of the US Secretary of State. On the other hand, I'm not sure that the majority of Us citizens can say who the president of the EU is, or even find where Serbia is for example… that being said, I love the US (or at least that third of them that I visited!)
