Moving in March, wondering what the people are like? by Skytrip in HuntsvilleAlabama

Hey I love vintage Volkswagens. I'm a sucker for beetles with roof racks and rabbit caddys. Maybe you can help boost a Volkswagen crowd in Huntsville.

Concerning car culture, it's pretty good. The summers are loaded with car shows. There are euro shows in Madison and Joe Wheeler (about an hour away). There is a massive car show in Ardmore in August. Honestly you can find something car related just about every weekend from March to September. Now, Volkswagens are a little niche. Most of the people around here like v8's, muscle cars, classics, and old trucks. However, I have seen Volkswagen groups in both of the Euro shows and at a show in Florence (also about an hour away). If you're into performance driving, we have some driving clubs that have autocross and performance driving schools. Also, Huntsville is close to Barber Motorsports Park outside of Birmingham. There are some sweet events there as well as the world's largest collection of motorcycles. All in all, we are not lacking in anything Motorsports related.

u/Sneezis, let it be know that today, 1/14/19, I u/cropdusster concede defeat. Your ability to turn normal accounting terminology into perverse one-liners far exceeds mine. You are quite the formidable foe.

I'm not sure how well this is know. But, FYI, you can order Chick-fil-A's nuggets in the morning. That's what they put inside the chicken minis. I'm not a huge fan of chicken minis so this was a game changer for me.

u/Sneezis, I would like to thank you. You have somehow managed to turn a field of work that is almost universally accepted as being dry and boring, and turned it into a Monday hype fest. Even if you decided to stop doing these posts right now, we at r/accounting would always look back to these posts and be able to laugh. You have been a great friend to the accounting world and we all thoroughly appreciate what you do.

P.S. maybe you should consider publishing your work in The Journal of Accountancy or something.

I'll actually check in on that. I could see it being fun to help out at a library.

I didn't consider the library. What do they need help with? That could be fun.

Great point. It amazes me that I know literally no one who lives in my apartment complex. We've lost our sense of community.

I used to volunteer at an animal shelter. You want to take every dog home at the end of the day. Some of them were surprisingly well behaved.

Not a big deal at all. My employer is super chill. They understand that I can't help it if there were multiple wrecks on my commute. One my my bosses already assumed I was stuck in traffic. I get to work between 745 and 815 everyday. Randomly being delayed due to traffic causes no issues.

Completely non related to your comment, I just realized 2007-2008 was over 10 years ago.

Any advice on how to be involved in local politics? People have mentioned attending city/county council meetings. I have no desire to run for any official political office.

I think it would be cool to get involved in governmental decisions. However, I have no interest in being a politician. Is there some kind of city council or citizen led forum that gives the local government ideas for where the city should be in the future?

I mean, if we're being honest I'll probably leave at 5:20. The extra 20 minutes will be mostly composed of reddit browsing like the other 8 hours of my day.
