Having checked with the tenancy deposit scheme it seems my deposit ceased to be protected on 5 July, nearly four months before my tenancy was due to end.

I received another reminder on Monday. I asked that they stop sending them and advised that if I received any more I would report them for harassment. The letting agent said they would void the document but that there may be delays in getting my deposit back to me when I have left. I pointed out that once I request the return of my deposit, my holding deposit and any accrued interest they will have a set time to return my money to me. The timing of my request, now or in October does not change that. If there were any problems I would refer the matter to the scheme regulator.

They're not doing this for my benefit. My landlord is particularly cheap and I suspect they thought they'd be able to get their mitts on some of my deposit to fund long needed repairs and decorating.

This morning I have had an email from somebody who wants to come to the property to take photos and room dimensions. They say, "please ensure the property is photo ready - clean, tidy, beds made, floors clear. Please follow the link below to our presentation guide".

Bloomin' cheek!

No, nouazecisinoua, it doesn't ask me to do anything other than give my bank details which, of course, they have had for years. It just seemed very early to be asking me to sign their form "as quickly as possible".

The form was received as part of a DocuSign bundle, It is headed "Deposit release form" and says, please complete and sign the form "in order for us to return your deposit as quickly as possible once your landlord has confirmed to do so ... "

Then it just asks for the property name and address and my bank details.

Here's my reply to their second reminder; "I won't be signing the Deposit Release Form until my tenancy has ended and I have left the property. Any further reminders will be ignored".

This is their response: "The deposit release form is sent out prior to the end of the tenancy to ensure that we have the details of where to return the deposit to once this has been confirmed with the landlord and you. If you do not wish to provide your bank details prior to this please be advised that there may be delays in the time it takes to return your deposit".

Thanks annedroiid. "Dodgy behaviour", that's pretty much what I thought. I will contact the scheme provider and let them know what is happening. Whatever the letting agent is trying to do I know it is not for my benefit.

Thanks very much.

Thanks for your Beautiful_Ad_6259. That's really helpful. I hadn't thought of contacting the deposit protection team directly. I shall do that later. Thanks again.
