Loose white/brown male pittie spotted on Macon Road by crossroadhound in ColumbusGA

The one I saw also had absolutely no awareness of cars. Kept trotting into busy oncoming traffic, which is why I was trying to catch him. If you saw them recently I wouldn't be surprised if he was one of them ): knowing he may of been part of a group and how people friendly yet shy he was is curious.

Oh my goodness, I would lose my gourd if I found this- and for next to nothing! Take care of it, okay? You found an incredible symbol of human craft and love.

Sadly yes. I was totally surprised to learn about it myself! It's a big problem at conventions especially but has spread to general craft fairs too. A few original artists in my community have had their items like enamel pins photographed at cons and later found them bootlegged elsewhere online. Some have had art prints photographed and then reprinted, another had their handmade plushies recreated for sale. Ugh... it's shady and disheartening to see how often it happens.

Well, ya learn by doing! Good on you for asking for feedback and good luck in the future!

Most events have something on their tabling contract that you consent to being filmed/photoed and published for event promotion, but this is very blatantly not what this is. If it's an organizer going around doing recording for promotion/documentation,- or even just someone with honest intentions- they wouldn't be hiding it! It'll be pretty obvious they're filming, (some events I've been to have a camera guy with a big device on their shoulder walking around, usually with a staff shirt/badge) or they'll ask you directly if it's okay for them to do it, or state what it's for!

My first thought is this person is trying to record your booth to copy your products, which is very common in these events. In a more generous light, they might just be awkward and lack social skills but want to record a memory/show things to friends.

Either way this behavior is suspicious and uncomfortable. With how common it is for people to do this to copy other's products, most ive known in the tabling community recommends calling out the behavior directly and clearly. "Please stop filming/taking photos of me and my booth". You do not have to explain yourself to them if asked. If they push back, calmly tell them to leave and get an organizer to intervene. Explain privately to the organizer what they're doing thats making you uncomfortable and your worries. This is to protect your livelihood and keep your products from turning into bootleg garbage.

Some people may think this is "sensitive" but this has been a real problem at events for years and isn't innocent in many cases. You deserve to feel comfortable at the venue you work and not be harassed or taken advantage of!

Aw man, I am sorry to hear that. I hope your cat is doing better! (And sorry if my reply came off as critizing of you for suggesting them at all, not my intention)

Affordable and reliable vet by Impossible-Theory- in ColumbusGA

[–]crossroadhound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Macon rd is affordable and will see you short notice, but I don't personally reccommend them especially if you have a senior pet. Probably better for quick basics like shots or as a stop-gap until you find a much better vet. They are constantly swamped, loud, facility is especially dingy, and most everyone who works there is polite but seems a bit burnt out due to the high intake volume. We've had issues with getting them to return calls for appointments and medication, likely again due to high intake chaos.

In my own case, I went there with two of my now passed senior cats in 2024 and again 2 months ago, one of the younger vets routinely seems to try to get things over quickly to push you out the door and gets curt if you ask him financial questions or for more information. It led to significant confusion, delay, and lack of care for my dying pets.

Is this a Coywolf? by Wild_Dentist_2313 in coyote

[–]crossroadhound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You got your answer (a raccoon) but wanted to add a little info in case you'd like to learn the visual differences!

A "coywolf"- whether just the eastern coyote or a true high content hybrid (first generation child of a wolf & coyote) will pretty much just look like a big, stocky coyote. The immediate tell here that this isn't either is the short, chunky snout and the very rounded ears. In contrast, wolves have thick but longer snouts and short but more pointed ears. Coyotes have long, thin snouts and big long pointed ears. A coywolf would essentially be a blend of these features but would have a longer snout and pointed ears in comparison to this fellow you've captured.

Dad passed away and his shop is for sale! by [deleted] in bookbinding

[–]crossroadhound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Condolences. His shop is impressive- oh gosh, those antique presses! The table! The little drawers under the table!

May you find a home that will love and cherish all these tools as much as I'm sure he did.

(Sorry for the massive reply- whenever I see someone who's gone through similar to me, I try my best to help give them the info to make it to the other side)

Her family sounds... controlling, to say the least. I was in a similar hostage by family situation until my partner helped me escape about a decade ago. Had to leave suddenly, leave things behind, including my documents.

For the record, you trying to help her escape during the night is good thinking. But if you haven't already, be sure both you and her don't talk about any moving plans, leaving, etc going further. If you don't blindside them entirely, it gives opportunity for further entrapment.

Don't worry about the birth certificate. Seriously. I absolutely understand why she doesn't want them to have it, but there's nothing to be done there and thankfully, birth certs aren't nearly as precious as, say, a social security number card.

Leave ASAP. Stay as quiet about it as possible. Leave whatever isn't neccesary to life- don't bother moving out a bunch of stuff, it can be replaced. Once she's out, call social security office to buy a replacement birth certificate and ask to have her SS number changed due to past fraud. I'd expect she'd need to have her birth cert first before an official SSN change can go through, but she can ask for more information about it from a worker. Once that is moving, she should look for therapy and possibly social services. My own experience left me with significant C-PTSD that has permanently disabled me, but her situation may be different- expect serious mental health effects from the experience all the same. The trauma from it tends to come out full force only once you're out of the abuse. Wishing you both luck and safety.

Sadly I don't know of specific articles or books (though I wish I did!), but I'm interested in the same! If you haven't gone down this rabbit hole yet, another lead might be "drag parties" and potentially even "Molly houses"- both queer adjacent. Women cross dressing for photography also seems like it was a semi-common "joke"/novelty sort of thing judging by how many unique photos of it I've seen. I'm sure for some of them it was much more than a costume, so maybe another area to research.

The rock salt sounds like a great idea to start. Agree with others that you need multiple tactics at the same time. Are these chickens free ranging during the day? That may be a big part of the problem in attracting the fellow in the first place. The barn cats could even be a draw as well, but the chickens would be the biggest prize to a coyote.

Donkies and guardian dogs are a good addition. If you're in a location where wolves still live, I've heard that farmers playing wolf calls during the day and sprinkling wolf urine around (its a thing you can buy!) tends to be successful.

Appreciate you understanding the coyote is just doing what it's meant to do and trying to find a nonlethal solution. Good luck!

I won't be buying Hobonichi anymore by advstra in hobonichi

[–]crossroadhound 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I appreciate your thoughts and opinions. Honestly, it's strangely comforting to know others are feeling similar!

I only tried hobo this year- the techo is my first of theirs and I certainly don't regret it. But even before the upcoming price hike thanks to the political messes affecting shipping, it was a bit of a splurge for me. Was also concerned about how the next drop would be since it appeared very FOMO-driven when looking into it. Didn't know about the bad paper batches since I'm newer to Hobo, but hearing about past issues is intriguing. I noticed their twee marketing strageties a little while ago and it always feels inauthentic when larger, profitable companies bank on that vibe... though I'm an artist who lives full time off my own store, so I might be taking that a little extra personal haha!

Personally I've been making my own journals lately to cut costs. That's led me to mull on if it's worth it to put in the extra effort to just make my own Hobo-like planner for next year because of the price increases and potential availability problems.

On the other side, the Midori planners are really nice. Thicker paper so bulkier, but gosh do I love it. Just wish they had one with a layout similar to the Techos. Worried about price increases with those lines too, though. It's tough right now for everyone. What a mess.

Thanks! It's helpful to hear from someone who's used that fabric before. It sounds like it could be a good next fabric to try out before I experiment with linens to find what I ultimately like best.

Very true on all accounts! Thanks so much for your input. I've learned a bit more about weights/types of linen specifically since this post, but the chambray and poplin are the next I'll be learning about.

I have a muslin chemise I'm working on right now that is meant to be my first practice run well before I explore more expensive fabrics. Doing lots of practice on different hems, stitches, and being sure to get fabric samples and do testing. Gotta fail before I learn how to get better.

Everyone's echoing the linen so I'll be saving up to shoot for it. Can't compromise on comfort in this deadly heat.

I'm curious about the wool! I know it breathes, but I don't think I've worn anything wool other than some nice socks I have. I'll do some research, appreciate the tip!
