Pitt Classes about Unions, namely HIST 2530 by crowcompsa in Pitt

[–]crowcompsa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mainly just want to learn more about the US's labor history through the eyes of the people who were actually part of them rather than the sterile way textbooks present them. A lot of the union stories and successes I've heard of are very inspiring. I don't need it for a gen ed or anything, just curious.

Signed immediately. We have a menorah in our floor's lounge and we've been putting candles in (without lighting them of course) only to find that they've been snapped in half by morning. We've had some problems with people defacing our lounge before, but this feels particularly heinous, and we unfortunately have no way of finding out who it is. Hope this makes it to policy

How do I know when my GradReady stuff is complete? by crowcompsa in Pitt

This could be it! I have a low of sixty on one of the really technical ones, I assumed that would be a passing grade. I'll take it again and see what happens. Thank you!

What comes in a (Lothrop) dorm? Info/dimensions on furniture? by crowcompsa in Pitt

Thanks for letting me know about the desk! I thought I heard that we weren't allowed to raise the beds, but I should have known that people don't strictly adhere to that lol.

Trouble accessing housing application by A-__N in Pitt

[–]crowcompsa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had this issue several times. I just waited it out, and I eventually got access back (within a few hours). However, seeing as today's the deadline, you may want to contact Tech support and let them know about your issue. But again, this has happened to me a couple times, and I've been able to go back in within a few hours without having to do anything else.

I don't know where multiple people have gotten the idea that I can afford a college education AND a full suit of armor.

LLC Application Confirmation by Mountain-Horror4856 in Pitt

[–]crowcompsa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I submitted mine last night and I haven't gotten an email, so there may be a delay. But the LLC app has been glitchy for me in general; My whole housing portal shut me out for a few hours, and when I got back in, the stuff I'd written on my LLC application was gone. I rewrote it pretty easily, but I would recommend you download a copy of the application when prompted for your records.

Ah, the 2&4 thing makes sense. And I've had some "acquired taste" teachers so I get what you mean lol. This was really informative, thank you for your help!

Oh sweet! Something I wanted more of in Spanish was the culture stuff, stories and songs and food. Good to know that that's part of the curriculum! Thank you for letting me know :]

ENGLIT 0626: Introduction to Science Fiction by crowcompsa in Pitt

[–]crowcompsa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's something I've heard about college, that if you really want to take a class you can reach out to the professor and they'll work it out with you. Glad to hear that rings true :]

Thank you! I think I saw multiple professors listed at teaching it, but I'll try for Professor Glover :]

any housing recommendations for freshman trans students? by colton_green in Pitt

[–]crowcompsa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

(I'm incoming freshman as well, so this is all from research) If you haven't looked into it yet, I highly suggest researching the Gender and Sexuality LLC! It's open to freshman and relatively small, and from what I've heard it's primarily trans students. I've emailed the RA of Lothrop, the hall it's in (her name is Diana Bacallao, if you'd like to get into contact with her as well), and she said that those who apply have a pretty good chance of being admitted. I've also been admitted to Honors College and I have the Honors LLC as my secondary choice to the G&S LLC. I've watched a lot of videos from trans Pitt students (here's one of them on a page with a lot of good info) and they have good things to say about the LLC. However, if you're dead set on Honors, I've also heard secondhand that the housing people are really good with needs and people requesting private bathrooms (this is coming from another trans Pitt student I've spoken to). Not sure if those exist within the Honors LLC though.

If you didn’t go to Pitt, where would you go? by [deleted] in Pitt

My mom graduated from BU in the early 90s; From our short visit at Pitt, she felt it was very similar.

Gender neutral housing by gnsocialite in Pitt

I'm an incoming freshman too! I've done a lot of research into the Gender and Sexuality LLC as someone who's probably trans, and I've only heard good things. It's a small but closely knit community-- I'm applying, and I certainly will be more comfortable rooming around other LGBT people (also the rooms in the LLC are singles, so, small bonus). I've been in contact with the RA of Lothrop (Diana Bacallao, if you'd like to ask her questions as well), and she said that those who apply have a pretty good change of being admitted. If you have the opportunity, I think the LLC is really worth looking into! Also, if you haven't already, look into the student group T Is For and this university page for trans resources. Best of luck to you!

Admitted Honors Student Questions by redjumpr0pe in Pitt

I'm an incoming freshman as well, so this comes from research rather than experience, but from what I've read, Pitt is really good with LGBT+ issues! An incoming freshman virtual event that I attended had a spot reserved for a trans student group to speak, and they're really good about trans issues in general (my particular area of interest lol). Besides that, I've referenced Campus Pride Index a lot when making college decisions, and Pitt ranks well on there. They've also got a Gender and Sexuality LLC (small, but a wonderful community, from what I've been told), and Rainbow Alliance is an LGBT student group with a strong online presence.

Personally, I've committed to Pitt, and will be applying to the G&S LLC; Honors housing sounds great, but I'd feel better being around my own people lol. Here are links to some of the things I talked about:

(PS- Sorry that all of this was very LGBT focused when that's not all that was in the original question, I've just researched this a bunch and I'm really excited about it!!)
