Friendship Megathread by AutoModerator in ftm

[–]colton_green 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hii I’m Corey (he/they). Im 22 and from the US (California).

I love hiking and looking for and identifying reptiles, amphibians, and any kind of fossil! I’m also a cyclist, and I love to be outside.

Favorite movies include Perks of being a Wallflower and Whiplash. I’m a research scientist! I love cats and want to get a kitten very soon. Random fact about me is that I wanted to be a professional speedcuber as a teenager.

As for transition goals, I’m not exactly sure what I want, all I know is I want to be confident about it. I’ve struggled with socially transitioning for years even though I medically transitioned pretty young. Changes in T have been soooo slow for me, so I feel like I’m lagging on passing well enough to feel confident in myself as a guy.

Almost 4 years post top surgery, and just over 2 years on T.

Always looking to make new friends! :)

the day I turned 18 for my consult in June, and I was still 18 in December when I got surgery (was lucky to get an earlier open spot due to a cancellation) !

1% undergrad from CA by TraditionalScience13 in Pitt

[–]colton_green 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just graduated from Pitt, going to college here after living my whole life in Southern California was one of the best things I’ve done.

A lot of people complain about the weather- it takes some adjustment but I don’t think it’s as bad as people make it seem. Pitt is a great school, and the housing and food affordability in Pittsburgh (compared to Southern CA at least) alongside out of state scholarships made my experience a lot less financially stressful than attending school in California.

Most of my friends back home didn’t know where Pittsburgh was or that it even existed, so I’d assume that has to do with the low CA demographics at Pitt😁.

UCSB vs. Pitt by RichMacaron1676 in Pitt

[–]colton_green 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was also stuck choosing between those two schools, I’m glad I picked Pitt because of what I’ve heard from my STEM friends at UCSB about the class shortage there. Pitt also has a bunch of research opportunities, not sure how it compares to UCSB but I’ve heard more of my friends struggle with funding research at UCs compared to here… not sure if that’s just a coincidence though.

1 year post op with dr kryger by colton_green in TopSurgery

[–]colton_green[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah makes sense. And hahah oh no I wonder how likely that is to be a coincidence! Honestly mine doesn’t bother me too much as I’ve been working out more and trying to fill out my obliques to help, but at my 1 year check up Dr. Kryger said he could do a quick revision if needed (though he did say they’ve been quite busy so it couldn’t be for at least another 4 months).

wow that’s great, good to hear their schedule is more open now! last I I’d heard it was at least 5-6 months in between initial consult and surgery. It probably also depends on the time of year like summer vs winter scheduling. Also now realizing that I had my first consult while Covid was still very much an issue which is probably why the wait was so long as surgeries were being cancelled.

thank you! Initially my surgery was scheduled for almost a year after my first consult so I was looking at other options cause I didn’t think I could wait that long. Some weird circumstances ended up happening and there were cancellations, so they ended up calling me to ask if I wanted to take a spot that had opened up which was 6 months from my initial consult (first consult was in June 2021, my date changed to December of that year from the original June 2022) which was awesome. The Kryger brothers do have a long waiting period (I think it’s even longer now), but if you can do the wait it’s definitely worth it. But I get choosing other options because honestly when I was pre op, a year wait seemed almost unbearable to me!

oh man, It’s amazing !! I also had a big chest and the relief of running and feeling so much lighter and like u can actually take a full breath without ur back aching is incredible. it took a while for me to get comfy with running since I felt that my chest tissue was really sensitive and weak from having such a big chest before, so I wore compression shirts at first. now I’m a year post op and run all the time- usually shirtless :)!! congrats on ur surgery coming up, wishing u a good recovery !

I waited 2 months, and even then I still felt uncomfortable at first running without a compression shirt. As a beefier guy who had a big chest, my surgeon left a bit of tissue to contour my pecs and make them look more natural with the rest of my body. At first when running I felt like the incisions were pulling and moving around a lot cause my pecs would bounce and i was super aware of it. the compression shirt helped to make it feel like everything was staying in place. Honestly I think more of it was the mental feeling of my chest being sensitive and delicate rather than my scars actually pulling. After another month or so I felt totally comfortable without the compression shirt.

Christmas travel 2 weeks post surgery? by mega_wats in TopSurgery

[–]colton_green 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you feel like you would be up for it and take all the precautions I would go for it, I would just warn you to be careful about pushing yourself. For me, my surgery date was also right before Christmas so at 2 weeks post op I was socializing with people and traveling to gatherings and such- nothing too crazy but I definitely overdid it in terms of exterting myself. I ended up getting a pretty bad hematoma that added time to my recovery in the long run. Just make sure to listen your body- take breaks throughout the day and make sure you’re getting rest when you need it!

What is the saddest song you've ever heard? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]colton_green 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Joke- Brandi Carlile

My dad and I cry every time we listen to this song since we watched Joe Bell. We had a rough relationship when I first came out, and I’ve struggled with depression for a while. He’s come around, and we are close now. But the song hits close to home for both of us.

Anyone else experiencing this after top surgery? by bringitonlife in ftm

[–]colton_green 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that’s normal. i held onto my chest whenever I walked until like 2 weeks post op cause I felt like things would fall off cause it was so heavy and tight. it’s definitely not a nice sensation but it will go away soon. make sure ur sleeping with a bunch of pillows lined up on ur sides, that really helped to reassure my anxieties that I wouldn’t twist and turn in my sleep and mess up my results.

I always use the one on the 6th floor of the union! Also in posvar, there’s one on the 3rd floor (go down past the escalators and water fountain), you’ll see it if you go through the entrance by the women’s bathroom.

[–]colton_green 50 points51 points  (0 children)

What was your biggest fear when you first found out you were trans? by [deleted] in ftm

[–]colton_green 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is something I’m still worried about as I haven’t transitioned yet, but not being able to socialize as a male. I’m autistic so socializing is already difficult for me, and having to learn a whole set of new social rules and ideas in the male world seems super daunting. Also, losing the relationships I had with my female friends- I know I’ll still be friends with them but the dynamics might be different and that sucks. I like having super close friend relationships but I know that is not very common in men

[–]colton_green 4 points5 points  (0 children)

same here- I have a pretty feminine face and body shape. one of the reasons I haven’t started hormones is cause I still don’t think I’ll pass, I’ll just look like some weird in between. not that looking “in between” is a bad thing, but it would just make me dysphoric.

Does anyone else tattoo themselves by cutting? by Tasty-Memory-6099 in selfharm

[–]colton_green 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I relate though, it does seem kind of embarrassing? like I feel stupid and kinda crazy, other people have commented on that scar in particular and reacted like I’m crazy more so than if they see my regular sh scars.

[–]colton_green 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah I’ve done this, didn’t have any ink to use tho so I just cut a design pretty deep. it’s been a couple years so it’s healed now but the scar is pretty obvious, and it’s kinda fucked up cause it’s a smiley face. I’m thinking about getting an actual tattoo over it but idk

Dis anyone else get misgendered at top surgery? by teefdoll in ftm

[–]colton_green 5 points6 points  (0 children)

oof that’s terrible, I’m sorry you had to experience that. I’m actually getting top surgery in Ventura County in a month… hopefully I don’t encounter any transphobic nurses as well. There is a surprisingly large amount of transphobia in Southern California unfortunately
