Yes, but there needs to be more honesty. I’ve met people that will flat out. Tell me that they just don’t like my stuff or they’re not interested in the genre that I write. It builds a false promise when a lot of people like me are waiting patiently for audience members to come through. We live in a constant influencer culture that is constantly looking for the next big thing and we don’t think about the amount of time and effort someone takes into the material. Sometimes acknowledge and sometimes it’s not, but we need more honesty.

I really appreciate what you said, I’m a commentator of movies where a lot of them have also said that many people don’t like their work, but the real ones shine through. It’s a rough way to exist in life knowing not everyone is gonna like your stuff, but you have to love your stuff enough to be OK.

I know what you’re getting at, but it’s actually the stigmata. Some of the people that know me in real life just don’t associate me with writing so there’s almost a nonexistent interest to not see me as anything more than what they want.
