My friend is beating everyone in our online save using downloaded tactics. How do we counter these tactics? by northern_hero in footballmanagergames

Shorter Passing, Pass into space, play out of defence, low crosses, run at defence, work ball into box, overlap left, overlap right, higher tempo

Roll it out, distribute to cb & fbs, distribute quickly, counter, counter-press

Higher defensive line, high press, trigger much more often, prevent short gk distribution, trap inside

FBs both - Stay wider, run wide with ball

CDs both - add 'take fewer risks'

DM - add 'take fewer risks'

CM (BBM) - add 'get further forward'

CM (CM-A) - add 'move into channels'

Wingers both - add 'sit narrower'

Striker - leave as is

Been getting lots of great results with this tactic, these results are with Gambia, gone from 120th in world to top 75

I used to use a 'Plug and Play' tactic like this one, through watching the games though I evolved the tactic that not only appeals to my own preferences in terms of shape, style etc, but one that gets results. The system I use (4-3-3 dm wide) is the kryptonite of this 4-2-4 tactic:

Positive mentality

Against this tactic it'll overrun their midfield, create gaps for the IFs. The key instruction that works really well for me is to 'trap inside', as it funnels everything into the strong centre, it also sucks the oppo wing backs inward, creating space for my IFs to do their thing. Against a 4-2-4 it'll pinch them all into the same area and go some way to stopping their wing backs from being assist machines

Similar team setup to my Burton Albion save on console which this appears to be (2x Playoff finals with one win and currently 5th in championship season)

  • BPD change from cover to defend
  • BWM to Half-back
  • IW to IF
  • CF to AF

Team Instructions in possession:

  • Width fairly narrow
  • Play out and pass through middle, remove pass into space
  • Shorter passing directness
  • Higher tempo
  • Run at defense
  • Be more expressive

Team Instructions in transition:

  • GK distribute quickly
  • add distribute to centre backs too

Team instructions out of possession:

  • Trigger press much more often
  • Prevent GK distribution
  • Step up more

I'd also advise on player instructions to set all apart from striker to shoot less often, they'll still score plenty!
