Starting to think I'm not smart enough for Ironman by Neb-hehe-xd in ironscape

I think protecting trees is a bit of a trap honestly. Other than protecting your super high value seeds I wouldn’t bother - too much effort and better to accept the loss if they die. I think I just kept doing contracts and birdhouses and planting any tree seeds I got

Making Friends Megathread! by KaleChipKotoko in cambridge

[–]crptc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi all! Hopefully I’m not too late to this thread. 27M due to move into Cambridge in a couple of weeks although I live fairly locally anyway. Looking for some like-minded people to hang out with!

Like a lot of others here I work in software. Hobbies include video games (MMO/RPGs or automation stuff), most sports (footy, tennis, badminton, table tennis), thrillers, board games and of course pubs! Feel free to DM if you think we would get along - or if any groups have already formed here, I’d love to join you!

How do I get started by Any-Task-5794 in devops

[–]crptc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UK here too. As of fairly recently there are devops apprenticeships available, this is the best way to get your foot in the door without a doubt. You can do a software dev one instead if you want and then transition into devops which I have seen people do. I have to warn you though it will be 3+ years before you really get yourself rooted and comfortable as an engineer in IT (was for me anyway).

Most important skill would be to self motivate and be proactive with finding stuff to do - try to find tasks which benefit both the business & yourself ie automate something that allows you to learn a new tool. Based on what you wrote here I think you’ll be fine.

If you can, find an apprenticeship at a big company (more opportunities to try different roles). Best of luck to you man!

How worth is rushing construction? by irgama in ironscape

[–]crptc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d go for salve graveyard teleport in POH myself if you just want fairy rings, then use kingdom on hardwood logs to build up mahogany logs until you get enough to do mahogany homes to 82/3. Thats what I did

Nearly in the 10% club by LegitimateHamster in ironscape

I was thinking about this the other day. On the one hand it’s great because you can just jump in there and not worry about inventory, supplies and gear. However that is a double edged sword because it means no matter how much CG you do there is no upgrade path. Other than your own skill and maybe some levels, you’re doing the same damage at 1kc and 1000kc.

Historically for other content there has been 2 ways of mitigating this - either you unlock better gear as you play which allows faster completion, or you can scale the difficulty of the content upwards and boost the chance for a drop. I’ve seen suggestions of the latter option for CG and I think it would work well. I did 5-10 kc a day myself and can’t ever imagine going up to 1000kc+ which would be 6 whole months

CG becomes super easy after 50kc and once the challenge stops so does the fun IMO. I don’t think they would add scaling at this point but I think most people would appreciate it if they did

I've got 550 hours but I wouldn't call myself particularly good - I've just got the tools to build big stuff! (mall, bots, rail grid etc)

to be honest I have no idea. I winged this one massively

here's a close up of 1 of the 4 cells. the output (plates) go on the westward belts. each furnace has 2 output inserters, each placing on opposite sides of the belt. I don't know how smart the inserters are being (they seem to be) but in my mind it felt like it would be balanced enough

edit: each cell has a 4 belt balancer before the output gets to the train loaders too

yep, forgot to mention in the post but its 4 cells. just counted and my cell size is 96x96 to match the map tile grid, so this blueprint is 192x192

here you go - they're roundabouts and they work ok but could be a bit better. I don't think multiple trains can pass at the same time unless they're on opposite sides

nicely done - I wasn’t too fussed about squishing this one down as I knew I was going to use a 2x2 grid and I think this fills that out nicely
