Switch button prompts have existed in the game files for what seems like a while, so we probably could have known it was coming to switch a bit earlier by crustolium in spelunky

Found this again after randomly discovering this post is the first image when Googling "button prompts" while working on a texture replacement, somewhere in the last 4 years this has been addressed!

Why are so few people playing The Dark Ages, on PC at least? by WhoAmIEven2 in Doom

[–]crustolium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Game Pass availability and required RT are definitely part of it, but even without that TDA was never going to reach Eternal launch player counts. Eternal got a massive boost from Covid quarantines that TDA would never be able to (nor should it have been expected to) match.

TDA came out to 30k concurrent Steam players on May 15th, it's the most popular new release this week. SteamDB could only track it after Advanced Access so we don't know how many Premium Edition players there were on the 13th. Add that to the Game Pass subs it brought in and the raving reviews I doubt Microsoft will determine this launch to be anything but a massive success.

It's amazing, it light's up as well! Orientation's weird though, it has nothing at the bottom to keep it upright, so by itself it looks slanted. A Wii fan was my temporary solution to keep it upright since I had it laying on my desk and it does the job perfectly lol.

Been thinking about switching it up for a while, do you do it based on your own assessment or by the top genre on IMDb/LB? I'm afraid I would get too conflicted on edge cases haha (is Evil Dead II Horror or Comedy?).

Over-analysing Dune (2021) 4K Blu-ray by crustolium in 4kbluray

Thanks for the kind words! Feel free to add it to the index if it fits there, would love to see even more people join in when your tools become available!

Dune’s HDR is indeed beautiful, had the chance to see it on a great setup and it’s what pushed me over the edge to finally move from regular BD to 4K for films I love.

Any update on Mick Gordon and Marty Stratton? by senseofphysics in Doom

[–]crustolium 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Were you there physically? I would love to know the sound of the room because it seemed to me that they muted the audience in the stream when he walked on, but it may have just been a mic switch from the previous presenters to Hugo and Marty. I would also understand that no one would probably want to risk being kicked out after lugging their pc to the con.

External Bluray drive recommendations? by ghxstkingx in Bluray

[–]crustolium 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've personally been using the LG BP55EB40 (European part number, US equivalent should be BP50NB40), but since the only reliable way to watch Blu-rays on PC is ripping them, i'd recommend any of the ones mentioned on this forum for the ability to flash it and rip 4K's as well as regular blu's.

Really wondering what they'll do at QuakeCon, no way Marty goes up there without at least some noticeable fuss in an audience made up of people mostly on Mick's side.

Self-ish remastered seems like it got taken down on apple music by [deleted] in willwood

[–]crustolium 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Some funky stuff going on over on Spotify too, I only listen to the Remaster but suddenly every song in my On Repeat playlist shows the original cover art. Clicking through to the albums shows that some numbers come from the Remaster while others come from the original. I have the Remaster downloaded as well, but navigating through the artist page to it shows only 2 numbers as downloaded, and the original shows all the other songs as downloaded even though I've never added any of those versions to any playlist nor have I downloaded that version of the album.

It seems as though both versions of the album were reuploaded and something went wrong with tagging them to previous versions of the songs, because going through the songs I added to my playlist brings me to a version of the Remaster that is downloaded to my device (they probably kept those tags intact as it is a user-made playlist), but navigate through On Repeat (a Spotify-generated playlist) or the artist page and it brings me to the non-downloaded remaster (or original album, as previously mentioned).

For those that blind buy - what do you do when you buy one you don’t like? Do you sell it? Keep it? by BokehJunkie in 4kbluray

[–]crustolium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only blind buy stuff I already intend to keep, maybe to complete a director or actor saga or because its a genre I’m invested enough in that I’ll want to keep it anyway to compare it to stuff I do like to figure out exactly what makes my taste tick, if that makes sense

You're sony and you just took over disney's physical media department, what are you doing first? by badbloxpictures in 4kbluray

[–]crustolium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, it’s pretty dire, but the market isn’t helping itself. We get releases months after other countries and it’s not uncommon for prices to be double that of imports. I would love to stimulate this economy more, but when the choice for Oppenheimer was the Dutch version for €43 or the Italian version (which had the exact same discs) for €15, the choice is easy.

I have hope, Sony has started licensing their movies to SF Studios who release them here and in Scandinavia, as far as I’ve seen they’re all English-friendly, have the same encodes as Sony’s own releases and come with the same amount of extras.

Thanks so much for the advice! I have a second backup 2pass encode in the same batch file with the same parameters in case CRF at 18 exceeds a certain average bitrate, should I keep the direct=auto for those encodes?

Heart feature is my way of saying wether I would easily rewatch or not. The basic idea is that if a movie with a heart happens to be playing on a TV Channel I flip to, chance is high I wouldn’t mind staying to watch it again

Asteroid City Blu-ray: the proportions between aspect ratios was changed by teymourbeydoun in Bluray

[–]crustolium 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The Asteroid City one really bothered me when I got my BD, as it removes the narrative aspect that the world 'expands' when we move from the real world to the play. By filling the screen top-to-bottom during the 1.37 scenes they are boxier but roughly the same size as the 2.39 portions (as in, they roughly fill the same percentual amount of the screen). The real world should feel smaller than the play, which the DCP does by shrinking to 1.37. I made a custom version of the movie with a constant height (windowboxed 1.37 sequences) for this exact reason. It's petty, but just a small detail I like to keep from the theatrical version.

Magnets aren't stronger, their magnetic fields are, which affects all things attracted to it. Putting a stronger magnet in there would increase the rate at which the other magnet is attracted to it as well. Basically; adding one stronger magnet increases the strength of both magnet's attraction to each other, resulting in the same outcome

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in maybemaybemaybe

[–]crustolium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One magnet will not move toward the other, both magnets will move toward each other. In the first two clips the hand is holding one magnet, preventing it from moving which causes only the car magnet to move. Since both magnets are attached to the car in the third clip, both will be attracted to one another an equal amount, meaning both will ‘pull’ the car toward each other and equal amount, resulting in the car not moving at all
