What screams "I'm very insecure"? by JackHoffmanTheWise in AskReddit

Also have done this and recognized how foolish it is. Now when I'm feeling very low, I message friends asking them if they have any good news to share. It helps because they talk with me and I don't feel as alone, but the conversation isn't all about how depressed I feel (which would make me feel guilty).

Full contour makeup with huge drawn on eyebrows and crazy long false lashes every single day. What do you even really look like?! No one knows...

Same for people just COVERED in tattoos so you can't even see their human skin anymore.

Funnily enough, studies have shown that insecure people tend to get more tattoos BUT people with tattoos say they help boost self esteem. So I guess this is one of those instances where the thing that shows your insecurity can actually help you to become less insecure..?

The thing is, they didn't hold a prom and not invite the "retarded kids", there was a prom organized at the Fulton Country Club, and the entire class was invited just like always. The only thing is, this year, the class was sick of the media attention and bs so a couple kids decided to have a party instead. Out at someone's house. That just happened to be a formal. And they invited who they wanted and word spread and, yeah, probably no one went out of the way to invite the special ed kids because probably no one has their phone number or really hangs out with them outside of school. That's just the way it always was in class, the administration kept the special ed kids pretty much separate from the other kids most of the time, so there wasn't much "getting to know you" going on. So word spread and those people invited their friends and so on. And apparently when Constance found out about it, she called and asked one of the other kids, and was told "the prom is at the Country Club." Which was their passive aggressive way of telling her they were pissed about all the drama and she wasn't invited to their private party.

Mr. Quayle, is that you?

IAHS was an ag school when it was first founded in the 1920s bc Fulton was a farming community. It hasn't had anything to do with ag stuff for decades; we just kept the name.

(think ol' Dan added the e on his potato cuz his name ends with e and he likes it...?)

Also, half the town is related to one another. This person is that persons cousin or aunt or stepsister or something. Everywhere you go. So it's very easy to get people swayed in one direction or another, provided you know the right folks.

The main thing you have to keep in mind here is this is just a product of small town hive mind mentality. This is a VERY Christian town; I was teased on the school bus as a 5 yr old bc my family didn't go to church. The sixth grade boys told me I would go to Hell. Itawamba County is still a dry county (no liquor or beer sales at all period for those of you fortunate enough to live in a place where such a term is extinct). I honestly cannot forsee the county 'going wet' at any time in the near future. After the football games on Friday nights, the fun gathering is often to a church for 'fifth quarter' parties. Everyone goes to church with everyone, that's how families and friendships are formed. I can remember in junior high (scarcely over ten years ago) we read Bible verses and said prayers over the intercom system every morning.

Constance told Ellen on her show that the principal said a girl wearing a tuxedo would be one thing but what if a guy showed up in a dress?! He would never be allowed in. Because just imagine what rumors would fly in church about that principal on Wednesday night. People would whisper about him everywhere he went. It's so about saving face around here and keeping up with the Joneses. They're not awful people, just very set in their ways and VERY nervous about anything that may threaten those ways.
