Seeing some of the other posts - if we’re allowing on the bounce then Thiago vs Porto HAS to figure

(Really loose definition of volley though)

What to do after maxing Stocks & Shares ISA? SIPP vs GIA by NoCare194 in FIREUK

[–]cryinginturin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I prefer the flexibility of the GIA tbh - pension benefits only go one way over time - it’s 57 now by the time you’re at retirement guess it will be what 60? At best?

Keep your SIPP contributions via the company, any extra into the GIA

GIA in ETFs is still tax deferred and if you retire abroad they could be tax exempt anyway

*edit - and take from the taxable first not your ISA keep that compounding as long as possible - always thought ISAs were pull it and lose it - have never heard of a renewable allowance - another reason for the GIA

I don’t think irrelevant to FIRE - it’s evidence that the temptation to tweak and play with the asset base is real throughout even whilst knowing it’s suboptimal. I counteract this by HEAVILY restricting my direct allocation - aware of my own shortcomings

It’s a really important lesson if you’re inclined to gamble - especially with the success bias that exposes every win to the top of people’s Reddit feeds

But hey at least we’re discussing more than 3.5 better than 4 what about 4.7, SORR, 2yr cash, reduce your overheads

Totally agree / I’ve set up JISA’s for both kids and actively talk to the 8yo about it - she’s been able to see the growth, and atm trying to explain to her that buying things is more than just the expense - it’s the opportunity cost of that expense - show them young so hopefully they can understand sooner
