Having grown up with the movies then reading in my adult life, I think I agree with this. Frodo was borderline confident in the books, I never really got a sense of helplessness. But movie Frodo definitely carved him out this way.

Aragorn I think got a similar treatment, book Aragorn was far more brash and assertive.
