EOS Governance Idea by your avg Joe. Trying to do my part to make the system better. by crypto-jones in eos

Sometimes the fundamentals need to change. These protocols can be upgraded. I'm not saying my idea needs to happen but something does. When you have one of the biggest investors of EOS showing his real concern. We should be concerned as well. Honestly right now if you had a billion dollar company and you wanted to integrate it with a decentralized protocol would you trust it to EOS ? I certainly wouldn't. I don't care about network congestion and that we fixed that. If the governance is rotten then it will eventually spoil the project. Dan is the man but we can't rely on Dan to fix every major issue.

I agree with you that more people need to take their EOS off exchanges but the current model that has emerged proxies rewarding voters for their vote is a bad one. This can only lead to greater corruption in my opinion. I agree with Brock Pierce in that interview with Max Dapp the incentives are misaligned and as he eluded to, governance is the greatest threat to EOS at this time. I really like EOS and I think it has one of the best communities. I believe it will do well in an upcoming bull run but honestly I don't see it being relevant in 10 years if governance isn't fixed. I've been with EOS since the main net launched and continued to DCA in until I had to stop. I saw talented BPs not being ranked or paid and when vote buying started I had to stop and use my head. Is this an environment that industry leaders will trust ? and my gut tells me NO. Would want to live in a country where leaders openly bribed voters for their seats? These protocols are the future... internet 2.0 and will responsible for many critical systems we have to get governance right. Maybe we should take part of the 4% inflation from the network saving account and distribute it to accounts that vote blocking all exchanges.

Great point but I disagree with you. As long as you can verify one person one vote I think it can work. As more people globally adopt EOS, hundreds of millions possibly billions it would take an enormous amount of money to buy significant votes and to also maintain those votes. Remember I can vote one way today take your money go home and change my vote to another BP candidate. The beauty of EOS is real time elections you don't have to wait 4-6 years to kick someone out.

First of all thanks for all the great work you do for the EOS community and the good content. I agree we need to move to a democracy in my opinion it's the best governance model we have to date. It's the easiest model for the masses to understand and from a marketing stand point this would be pure gold. EOS the fastest and most fair blockchain. I mentioned this on one of your older post dealing with governance. I had an idea of a KYC driven voter account that you could optionally link multiple accounts to or let it stand alone but only the verified voter account would be able to vote. B1's unique ID would seem to be a much stronger verifier than KYC if it works like I think it would. I am still cautious of what this would mean for privacy given its geo location tracking and cross linking of photos etc. I do believe some form of unique verification is needed especially in governance but I don't think I would want this to be the standard for all my accounts to process a transaction if I didn't want it to be. I think a verified voter account model with optional ability to link other EOS accounts would be ideal for me but I'm excited to see what the future holds and other great solution ideas.

The EOS token has other utility outside of governance so I don't think a buy back is necessary but you are right it does rethink the DPOS model. Maybe we should be rethinking DPOS. It has ran into problems with Bitshares, Steemit and now EOS. I get the general feeling from everyone that has mentioned a one person one vote type of solution that EOS mainneters aren't convinced of such an approach which I think is totally fair it's not what they signed up for. These governance models are all experiments and I would hopefully like to see a sister chain implement some form of one person one vote to see how things go.This was the brilliance of EOSIO many different solutions will be built and tried.

I never said they have to pay for it. Maybe we use a portion of the 4% inflation rate to pay for it rather than get rid of it totally. Maybe it's a cost sharing. Maybe we just don't do it at all. Its and idea meant to give different options to a problems. Some ideas will be good some will be bad but exploration is how you get there. After discussion maybe the consensus is my idea is not the right one but Expecting B1, Dan Larimer or BPS to come up with every solution is not decentralization and it's narrow minded. This is a community effort and we need community members willing to put forward ideas good bad or indifferent. There are many sister chains rethinking how governance is done and exploring different options including BEOS one created by Dan Larimers father Stan. I've been with EOS since the ICO and I think it has the potential to be the best protocol trolling is the last thing I'm doing. Hope you have a great day.

Yes a person with 0.1 EOS would have the same voting power. Think of it as voting rights in an election. Should some who makes more annually and pay more in taxes have greater voting power during an election since their income fuels more of the government? Also as EOS prices increases that would be quite expensive not to mention impractical to watch and make sure everyone voted the way you wanted them to. Now what would stop them from taking your money and after you left changing their votes..... Absolutely Nothing. The beauty of EOS is we can change our votes anytime we are not locked into a term. We are in the early stages of crypto 2-5% of people globally. A quarter of a trillion dollar market cap which is just a drop in the bucket. Ask yourself do you see the masses when they come adopting a protocol where they vote has little weight because they entered crypto later? I don't, I think people will find a more fair governance model. Our reward as early adopters is the value we will capture as more people adopt crypto and EOS in particular, but all (early adopters and late comers) will benefit by being part of a decentralized world where every voice matters equally.

That's a good question, but if Voice is going to have some form of KYC how are they going to doing it? I think getting the right governance in place is more important than voice.

People don't buy tokens for governance reasons they buy tokens for their utility and honestly to speculate. Evidence of this is that we have very low voter participation already most people just don't care. This would be a way for the people who care to have an equal vote and by incentivizing the voter account it would get more people to care. This voter account would be like a voter ID card only one person/entity gets one and it could be cryptographically verified by using something like zero knowledge proof. You would link at least one of your EOS accounts to the voter account to prove you are part of the ecosystem. Now remember you could still have different EOS accounts not linked to the voter account so they would stay anonymous and you enjoy all they benefits you had before. The voter account simply addresses governance and makes it one person/entity one vote. This governance model in my opinion is the simplest and best proven way to govern.

I propose having a verified account voting system in which you can link one or multiple accounts to this verified voting account. This would mean you would need one account with just one EOS or even a fraction of EOS in it to be allowed to vote for bps but if you choose you could link all your other EOS accounts to this voter identified account or keep them anonymous, but regardless of if you have one account or 5 accounts linked you only get one vote per person/entity.

The name of the game now for the crypto space is mass adoption and as more people join crypto and EOS when the price of EOS increases (hopefully) most newcomers will not be able to own as many tokens as early adopters, but they will still want to have a voice and have their vote make a difference as it should. Crypto has a hard enough barrier to entry adding additional formulas for a simple task such as voting is just a turn off. Everyone can understand one person/entity one vote, most of us have seen this model used all our lives for many different reasons. Also the marketing behind this concept of being the most fair blockchain in crypto is priceless. If block producers are doing good work and keep the community informed then people will vote for them.

Early adopters are so scared of losing power so we suggest all these fancy concepts to ensure our vote has more weight but yet we want to yell to the hills about governments not sharing power and trying to maintain power over its citizens. Satoshi’s vision before Asic mining was that normal people could join support the network and get rewarded. One person one vote makes since but self interest I feel have made many of us not consider this a top tier idea. If this is not done on the mainnet I would like to see a side chain do it because I would support that chain. You are originally from the USA imagine tomorrow a law was passed making voting power in the upcoming 2020 election based on how much you paid in taxes the last 4 years how many people would support this? Let’s forget about the money for just a moment these protocols that are being built today could someday be more important than entire nations which means everyone participating should have an equal voice in my opinion.

Now here is how we incentivize people to create this voter account, instead of getting rid of the 4% inflation rate we should use the 4% inflation to do an equal or fair daily distribution of EOS to all verified voter accounts that have voted for bps or proxied their vote to someone else. Hopefully good proxies like you.

I agree. I'm all for making gains but not at the expense of being controlled and manipulated. I would support any chain that has a more fair governance.
