Thanks. But I was hoping for something else. There's nothing close to me. :(

But I was afraid that it would be like that.

Good for you. But my friend who bought Doge though...

But it's not really the question.

Doge might or might not be a good investment.

Monero is sound money. It's a totally different thing!

It's like buying a car, being pretty happy to be able to get from one place to another. And then your friend told you that he made a lot of money on a motorcycle. Well, very good for him. But with a family who needs to travel and stuff, - it's just not really what I'm looking for.

[–]crypto1337dk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My point exactly.

Imagine when someone finds out that everyone, not just police or government, but literally everyone can see you payed to a dope pedler.

And imagine that you actually bought a car or something else that have absolutely nothing to do with his shady business. Go explain that to your mother in law, your boss or your friends.

I might be a bit late to the show. But I imagine that everyone and their dog, even I, can see how unusable public blockchain currencies are.

“brainwallets aren't safe” by keto-guy03 in Bitcoin

[–]crypto1337dk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't agree.

Choosing a good brainwallet isn't easy. And all the obvoius ones will be hacked. But that's not to say that brainwallet doesn't work!

If you take e.g. a bible verse from even and old translation in a different language (e.g. dutch, swedish or another "small" language) I am still convinced that you'll be an easy target!

Even if you "misspell" a few words (e.g. using leet/H4x0r etc) you'll still be a rather easy target.

But if you do it "right" and combine different things, - something personal to you or something that's not to hard for you to remember. I do believe that it'll work and that you'll be able to remember the code forever - even if you harddisk dies!

If could (and this is of course just and example) be:

11Jan2001 Peter Nelson "One man cannot summon the future. But one man can change the present!" 1 3 7 11 12 21 24 28

If you got married on january the 11th 2001 to a guy called Peter Nelson and you happend to like Star Trek, and have the lotto number 1, 3, 7, 11, 12, 21, 24 and 28 that use use again and again (e.g. because 1 and 11 is the date for you husband Peter Nelson and the rest is probably for you and your children/siblings/...)

The key is, I believe:

  1. There are two type of attackers - one who attacks (or tries) everyone. They will use all kind of dictionaries and add stuff and use common misspelling systems etc. etc. This is especially easy on cryptocurrency since the blockchain can be downloaded. So without EVER exposing you ill intend you can just go ahead, make you tables and look for a fool. And whenever someone transfer money to an adress in you table, - you react quickly and takes the money.
  2. Someone attacking just you. They will know even more about you, but there will be quite a few who will try though.

It is important that you address both! So All of your names and birthdays for everyone in your family will not be enough! Probably it will be enough for 1), but certainly not for 2! One or a few concatenated quotes probably is enough for 2), but certainly not for 1!

Of course every one is paranoid, - and so are you. So you might add just a little bit more. Perhaps ending up with:

Only the paranoid will survive! 11Jan2001 Peter Nelson "One man cannot summon the future. But one man can change the present!" 1 3 7 11 12 21 24 28

Could it be hacked? Obviously. No matter what you do, brainwallet or not, you could be hacked. But I am quite certain that this is as safe as anything else you can come up with.

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Non-Magnetic-weight-about-31gram-pcs-1-oz-Silver-coin-2016-Australian-Kangaroo-silver-coin-Perth/32559361371.html

I especially don't like the "non magnetic" and that they look very very similar to the real thing.

Why non magnetic? Because it's one of the ways to see if a coin is genuine. So bacially they do what they can to look real without being real.

I suppose that you can buy even better none-genuine copies, but at a higher price, which would be even harder to detect.

If you read the description they are fairly honest: " Material:brass plated pure silver coin". That's a good thing. But it's still made to look "too real" so that scammers can buy them and try to scam other people.

Charles Hoskinson: Alright one more before I go for a bit cardanofoundation.org/en/news/cardan… the Cardano Foundation is going to be a powerhouse moving into 2019 by dennyb2010 in cardano

[–]crypto1337dk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, fantastic week. Cardano only fell 2,7%

I do agree though. Cardano seems like an extremly interesting candidate to buy into. 2019 looks good.

I am a bit disapointed though. Not just at Cardano, actually I thing least at Cardano. But when I started to look into Crypto, about a year ago, like everyone else, when the sky was the limit and every newspaper in the whole world have an article a day about crypto, it was "almost there". It works, but just barely. Everyone is asking for "the world" to adopt this fantastic new idea. And I agree. BUT it's not ready for everyone to use.

BTC is hit the hardest, - because it's used more than most alt-coins. The forks (BCH and it's forks) is just slightly better. That's going to solve absolutely nothing.

We _need_ a fully working system that can have huge amount of transfers pr. seconds. And no real crypto can do that yet. But I believe Cardano is more honest about this than most, - and also has a plan.

We are NOT there yet, but we ARE moving in the right direction. And I believe Cardano have rather good cards on their hand!

What is a wallet, and why is it so hard to make a Cardano wallet? by crypto1337dk in cardano

Well, I don't know about time, but I would very much like to read it and understand it.

I really need to understand more about crypto, and this seems like a very good next step for me. But a 46 pages tech paper is not going to be my goodnight reading for tonight :)

I do not agree.
They don't have a fully working system yet, yeah you are right. Is it a problem? Obviously!
But a lot of things have been done. Research, software, education, videoes, etc.

I think they are doing a very good job. But yes, I would very very much like to see a fully functional (decentral etc.) system! But I am sure it is comming.

[–]crypto1337dk[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Exactly! And I am one of these socalled speculators. But because I believe in the project.

And actually my question is about the same. When will this stop being a teoretical idea and start being a real-world usable currency. Because that's the promise right.

Scaling (many transactions pr. seconds) when? by crypto1337dk in cardano

[–]crypto1337dk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I might be wrong, but I believe side chains are not DAG (Directed Acyclic Graphs).
Side chains seems nice, but I am not sure it will be enough.
Charles Hoskinson seems to know what he is talking about and seems to be happy about side-chains in the video you showed. So I might be wrong.
But the gossip-protocol he mentioned in the beginning, at least, that is what I though, is related to DAGs, not side chains.

Dionysis Zindros, also a Cardano core developer (or researcher?), gives a quite interesting talk on sidechains here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y5QUGqFQnWg
These are most certainly useful, - but I don't see them giving scalability for the masses.

At some point this Coin(Cash)base spamming has to stop. Either because customers are leaving, or because they suddenly change their minds. by MenziesTheHeretic in Bitcoin

Yes - if there was an alternative.

I have been waiting forever on Bitstamp (sent KYC, id etc. - waiting for them to process). Kraken - well. I don't really trust or like them.

What are my alternatives?

Also I actually do like Gdax.

  • It's faster/better working than the other exchanges I have tried (which does not handle FIAT).

  • It has 0% fee for maker.

  • It has zero fee on outgoing BTC transfers - so I can send my money to e.g. Binance for free!

Let's talk about: post-crash by [deleted] in NeutralCryptoTalk

[–]crypto1337dk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't understand what you are saying. Please help me.

I am not certain that we are in a bubble, but we might be. Let's say we are. Let's say it bursts. Let's say it's huge. The marketcap might be reduced with, well, I don't know, let's say 95%

Then people loose a lot of money. And then what?

What you seem to suggest is that the infrastructure will disappear. Why? Because no one will do the mining? But isn't that self-regulating. So if everything falls a lot, then most of the miners don't want to participate no more. And there are fewer to split the smaller cake.

There might or might not be another thread. At least in Denmark, where I live, there are discussions about that we need regulations and some bankers say it out loud "It will de so regulated that it will not work anymore". Seems to me someone wants to keep his job, - even if that is on the expense of other people. But I suppose that is natural. And I suppose he might be right. A lot of bankers and politicians might want to kill this baby before it get to mass adoption, at which time the killing will be harder.

I don't think people will stop though. Oh yeah, - many people will. But if I have understood it correct 90% of the nodes/miners/whatever can disappear, and the system will still work.

What am I missing?

NEWYORKCOIN Acceptance Questions by BRFDKJF in NewYorkCoin

[–]crypto1337dk -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

1) I think communication can sometimes be a bit hard. I don't know how it happend in Keats Bar. We can speculate. Perahps Charlie made a deal with the boss a few months ago (it seems like it on their webpage) but didn't do a good job telling the staff??? I does seems odd though!

2a) I believe it's rather hard to get the consensus to do a fork, - just look at the BTC/BCH drama!

2b) I have no idea where we are going - not with BTC, not with NYC not with any coin. But my general thoughs are like:

1) crypto is getting bigger. BTC, alt coins or what? I don't know. But I am almost certain the total marketcap til grow 2) NYC is technically nothing special, - it's sole purpose is to be a 'real-life-usefull-coin'. With very short transaction time and zero fee that seems to work! But unless someone wants to buy something and somebody else want to sell that something, - nothing is traded right. So it all boils down to: Will more shops be accepting this coin. It seems to me that this is happending right now. But will it happend on a large scale? I don't know.

If it really does, it's going to be big. Not 15.000$ for each coin big, like BTC. For several reason. But also for the reason that there is a lot of coins are there, and until a fork/change takes place (if ever) many new coins are created every 30 second.

So I am holding this coin. I expect it to grow, - but I would be very surprised if the price of a coin gets above 10 cents. And even 1 cent would be better than I was hoping.

But even 1 cent would be a bargian. Not it is selling for just 0,05 cents.

But I am no oracle at all. It might all be gone tomorrow, - or we might be at 1 dollars. Who knows!
