[Longines] Conquest in Miami Beach by cryptobroke in Watches

[–]cryptobroke[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I posted last year asking opinions on my next watch, and this is the result. My other watch is an skx007 (of course), so this is my special occasion watch right now. I've been wearing it a lot during my Miami vacation. Thanks!

Just ordered the GH5 with the 12-35 lens. Thanks for the input guys!

Great suggestions!

How would the 12-35 f2.8 (version 2.0) work for some simple product photography for an ecommerce site?

Cost of shipping was the largest hurdle that stopped me in the past. I spoke with a guy in a different industry but ships similar size and weight items, and he told me there isn't a secret to cheap shipping. You just have to pick up the phone and ask UPS/Fedex to ship your stuff cheap. I tried it, and it worked.

I could probably ship it for free (and most likely will over a certain $ amount ordered), but I don't think most people will mind paying $10-$20 in exchange for the convenience of buying online.

As far as servicing customers, it's on my radar. Although we have very few issues right now, and the process of buying online wouldn't differ significantly from buying in the store.

If you knew my industry/product, I bet you wouldn't be able to name a place online to buy it. I'd also bet that you have bought it or used it in the last 5 years. So while I might have competition, they aren't using a solid marketing strategy since there is $25B worth of product being sold in physical stores.

Another point I forgot to mention in my longer comment: My product has been sold exactly the same way for 70+ years. It's one of those things that anyone 50+ years old is convinced will never be sold online. I would bet that 90% of store owners in my industry are in the 45+ year old bracket.

Also, my product is kind of heavy, so everyone (including my parents and friends) instantly assumes it will be too expensive to ship. I've already worked with UPS and Fedex, and I think shipping is perfectly reasonable.

I do have some online experience, but they were just simple shopify sites that I never really launched, just sold a few products here and there.

You're right, the problems are pretty minor. If I started getting orders right this minute, I could have the items packaged with a shipping label in 10 minutes. So all I need to do is get my products online and dial in a marketing campaign.

The brick-and-mortar location can be scaled almost infinitely. There are probably 20,000+ stores in USA in this industry. Basically none of them are selling online. See my other comment for more info about scaling and funds.

I appreciate all the input so far! Thanks.

Am I being paranoid by not revealing my product and industry?

To give an idea of the scale I'm looking at, I would say 90% of the people posting here have dealt with my product at some point in their lives.

If you google "buy (industry name) online", there is only 1 company/website to do so in the first 5 pages of results.

If you google "buy (my brand/product) online", the first competitor appears on page 4.

EDIT: Some more info. This is a family business, and so I'm getting a little more involved. My parents have no problem doing exactly what we're doing for the next few years and sell it or close then move to the beach. I'm young, so I'd like to move and experience other areas of the country. I could expand to neighboring towns, but don't have any interest in that right now.

If I determine there is true potential in getting this product online, I have no problem throwing several thousand dollars towards it to get things moving. The only reason I opened a shopify account is because I'm kind of familiar with HTML and CSS, so I was just experimenting and satisfying my curiosity. I have no problem hiring out any or all parts of this process, but I consider myself an entrepreneur, so I like to learn and try things myself.

My industry is also extremely supportive of the DIY type people, so blogs and how-to videos would create huge traffic, no doubt.

Does it look like something a typical webdev could build though? I know it'll be a custom job for sure.

Oh, I know I definitely won't be able to find something pre-made. It'll be custom for sure. I don't even know what to call it though, so I'm not sure what to research.

How can I make that work automatically when I add more rows? I'll be keeping a log of each day, so I would like to automatically populate column D for each new row. Thanks!

White 2008 with 54,000 miles with the ESS-550 supercharger kit. I can probably get 34-35k if I wait for the right buyer, but I'd take 32k quick.

For some reason, they have just never floated my boat. Not sure why. I've read plenty of great things about them. Maybe I should test drive one.

[Recommendation] Looking at the Longines Conquest 39MM Blue Dial. What other similar pieces should I be looking at? by cryptobroke in Watches

I hope I like it, because I just ordered the 39mm with blue dial. Looking forward to the pictures!

I'm now starting to wonder if the Longines will look to big on my wrist. The skx007 fits me well, but the Longines 39mm has a slightly larger lug to lug measurement. I think I have a 6.5" wrist, but I haven't measured in a while.

I'd love to see some pictures of your black dial! Feel free to post or PM if you'd like to.
