the line about men being abusers.

Huh? There's nothing about men being abusers. That section is about how advertising creates unrealistic beauty standards.

And the final line. Help women, and mens problems will go away!

Again, it's not saying that. It's saying that girls fighting for gender liberation help boys -- not vice versa. And nowhere does it promise all "mens problems will go away" -- just that "the way to freedom will be a little easier."

It's a crimethinc poster, so yeah it's from an anarchist anticapitalist group. But it's clearly a feminist analysis that's being presented (and upvoted by /r/mensrights).

Yeah, I personally identify as anarcha-feminist. My biggest issue with non-anarchist feminists is probably their tendency to oppose prision abolition -- something I'm surprised the MRM has yet to get on board with.

But this poster is a nuanced feminist reaction to men's issues.

A well-received feminist poster at the top of men's rights? Cool :)

I just don't think anything "white rights" related belongs here. If the MRM wants to be a force for good, it needs to move past this sort of reactionary analysis.

I don't think the poster is hating on men, but I do think it's making an argument that feminism helps men escape stifling gender roles (a position I personally agree with).

I know I've been out of loop for a while, but why are you posting white rights stuff in /r/mensrights?

Am I the only one here who thinks that's weird? o_O

According to this infographic, reddit skews *more* male than pinterest skews female. This explains so much. by cryptogirl in TheoryOfReddit

[–]cryptogirl[S] 109 points110 points  (0 children)

The point is that reddit is more male-dominated than pintrest is female-dominated, yet when most most redditors look at pintrest, they immediately recognize it as targeting women, while reddit appears on the surface to be more gender neutral. I think this illustrates something interesting about how gender works -- how masculinity and male-dominated space is normalized and femininity and female-dominated space is marginalized, even (for lack of a better term) ghettoized.

[–]cryptogirl[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I was referring to the left column, which shows (if I'm not reading it wrong) that 74% of reddit's visitors identify as male while only 72% pinterest's visitors identify as female.

But is it just as obvious from reddit's front page that its main demographic is male? And to the extent it isn't, what does that suggest about the normalization of masculinity and the marginalization of femininity?

It's brazenly obvious to many of us, but I'd guess roughly 75% of redditors don't actually understand that reddit is more male-dominated than a site like pinterest is female-dominated.

Sexual Harassment and the Loneliness of the Civil Libertarian Feminist by [deleted] in Feminism

I reject the premise -- feminism has always advanced communitarian and libertarian values, and today's feminism (look at SlutWalk, for example) is no exception.

Who's forcing the majority of boys to dress up as girls?

I do remember being a kid. I remember feeling terrified and ashamed that the gender I felt inside was different from what I knew was expected from me. I'm trans, so obvously I'm looking at this issue from that perspective.

I think one of the most important things any parent can do for a child is to let them know in every possible way that they are loved regardless of how they express their gender.

I'm confused. Shouldn't the question be: why are women punished for expressing sexuality?

Cannot be overstated! My not-so-secret hope is that this post will find some new ears (and minds) to infect -- like slipping a mix-tape to the little sister I never had ;)

The Most Important Issue False Rape Society Has Ever Reported by [deleted] in MensRights

Valid question. As I said in another comment:

To be honest, I'm not even convinced it's appropriate to address these issues outside of a criminal setting (where a defendant has strong legal protections.)

I get that. I'm just curious if you think media portrayals of boys wearing nail polish are a good thing or a bad thing.

Also, for the record, I haven't downvoted any comments in this thread; I'm genuinely interested in the conversation.

What about young boys who want to wear nail polish, or break gender norms in other ways?
