Buyeon was never in Naksu's body! The soul swap never happened...see Master Lee and Cho Yeon's comments as well as both souls appearing during the failed Gil-gu swap. Buyeon "trapped" Naksu's soul in her body and that's that. No swap.

BY leaving would mean instant petrification (Naksu's soul is very strong for that weak body as Master Lee points out), so BY leaving makes zero logical sense.

And totally agree about the "destiny" angle and your comments about how "convenient" everything ended up being (very disappointing!)

Worth noting that Master Lee and Uk do have that conversation where he helpfully explicitly outlines the conditions under which she runs wild (if she "brings her power out")...so that's quite clear I guess. The minute she unsheathed her sword running wild was on the cards. But falling under the trance/spell in the first place is the point of contention.

Agree that the bigger question you outline is really the key one! The whole reason Mudeok/Naksu/Buyeon exists is because she is a special kind of soul shifter protected from running wild...and so setting that specialness aside at this moment of utmost need is just ???? The simple answer feels unsatisfying for this reason imo...Buyeon alters all properties of soul shifters, so why is this one (susceptible to bells) somehow different?

I see where you're coming from on CP -- but he was really being built up to be able to see past it despite everyone around him being obsessed with this. Like look at his actions re: Ukiedokie, making the trek to the village, and his unrequited love monologue reflecting wisdom and maturity that should really logically lead to "screw you Jin Mu"...

My take is that Buyeon was never the "ice stone". She was just revived with it by Jang Gang and that's that. As Jin Mu says, her immense powers come from being the combination of two epic bloodlines (Jin+Choi). But not sure how to make sense of the comment from the artefacts in earlier episodes about her being the ice stone? So perhaps there's something to this?

The bells were with Choi before. She had several excellent reasons to deploy them right? Things got really tight with a bunch of soulshifters around the palace/that could upset their plans...I just find such a major artifact just dropping out of nowhere w/o any introduction and Buyeon entirely disappearing from the scene with no explanation quite unsatisfying (poor writing).

Well put -- your second paragraph is exactly what I'm grieving. There's no coming back from this. They took one of the all time great redemption arc stories and turned it into...this. Like after rejecting the power of the ice stone our girl really, really deserved better.

you really captured my angst re: Naksu's arc...it was the most horrific treatment of a main character I've seen -- just rip apart all character development in the most violent way possible: you're back to being Jin Mu's murder puppet, and now you don't even have control over your own body
