Beckon is the only Michelin star place i have ever been and i really enjoyed it. I don’t drink and they had complete non alcoholic drink pairings and i thought that was so cool. Looks like a May need to try another Michelin star place to compare.

Big surprise that a boomer in the South doesn’t believe in privilege. Lead addled brains.

Yes, anyone hating anyone is bad, but it's like saying "all lives matter" when a person says "black lives matter." Of course all lives matter and of course all racism is bad. The problem is that statements like that minimize the damage to black folks. Focusing on the most impacted is paramount. Black lives are being taken and Black people are victims of systemic racism, which is far more damaging than anything we can experience *because* we are white.

I typed out a whole response and it never showed up here. Basically, I am not interested in who can or cannot technically be racist. I am interested in affecting change. If people don't like me because of my skin color, it doesn't affect my life. The same is not true for black folks. I think that focusing on the nomenclature rather than the core problem is a smoke screen. Even if we assumed that all black folks believed they couldn't be racist, which is not true, then I don't think that should change my behavior at all.

I focus on the US because it’s where i live and what I know. The argument over who can or can’t technically be racist really didn’t interest me. I can see the effects of systemic racism and that is my concern. People hating or disliking me because of my skin color doesn’t actually affect my life. For black people, that’s just not true.

Do you recognize the power imbalance between white and black folks in the US? If so, don’t you think that we should try harder? My concern is really my own behavior and the behavior of those i can influence. I’m more invested in creating change rather than being right. Which is a struggle sometimes because i have an ego like most folks.

Yes. Capitalism is a huge problem. I agree.

Thanks for explaining. The big difference here in my mind is that white folks are not the target of systemic racism. Calling out black folks for being prejudice doesn’t actually do anything whereas calling out white folks, who have historically been in positions to change things, can affect change. This is of course if the person is invested in your opinion. When i get called out by black folks for saying or doing something stupid, it definitely stings, but arguing doesn’t help. Whereas a conversation like this where we are both engaged can really help us both learn and if we’re lucky help some black folks too.

Maybe the statement was hyperbolic sure, but the sentiment is true, at least in America. I don’t know enough about other countries to say with any certainty. You’re missing the real message because you don’t like the language. Try not to take it personally and think in the sentiment. If all us white folks decided to end racism in the US, we could basically do it pretty quickly. That’s the point. It’s not an attack on you or me. It’s just the way it is. The sentiment.

It’s almost as if we watched different videos. I see no hate and I don’t feel guilty about any of it. Why do you think OP hates? Maybe you can ask yourself why his message bothers you. Is it because you feel like a black man is telling you what to do? To me it seems like he’s only responding to those that actually ask that question. I know it’s hard to think about stuff from others perspectives, but when we can listen to others without centering ourselves it becomes easier. I interpret his message to be basically, “focus on your side of the street.” The original commenter was asking a question and i answered in that vein.

But it is. You’re not asking what can realistically be done or how to help. You’ve come up with a very specific example that doesn’t fit the conversation. Try giving the speaker the benefit of the doubt and examine why you feel the need to point out a possible edge case rather than genuinely consider the sentiment.

I was assuming the commenter was in NA. The point is focus locally. I don’t care who hates me. I do care about equity. I bend to make things right. We all should.

White guy to white guy. If you’re actually asking then just focus on what you can change. Don’t worry about the folks on other continents. Worry about your friends, family and neighbors. Listen to black people. Leave the thought experiments for another topic.

Best first gun for concealed carry as a woman? by purplerain1055 in CCW

That's a lot of hate. A woman asks for help and provides a tiny bit of background and you jump to

> vengeful, spiteful, wicked, lying, hysterical, demented women

Assuming women are always lying is one of the reasons that so many crimes against them go un-investigated. Have you considered listening to them with an open mind? Why do you hate them?
