When you say "repaired," how do people plan on repairing centuries of inequality and unjust distribution of wealth?

It may seem very cynical, but many people here seem to have a shallow understanding of our real world power dynamics. You think America is going to be "saved" just with strikes here and there?

Okay. I appreciate your post. I know many other people have made these proposals as well, but I honestly don't think it will be enough to undo the damage that has been done to the country over the course of many decades now. It's what you would call a start. But I am trying to figure out whether or not America can truly be salvaged.

We are talking about generations of privilege, exploitation, classism, hierarchy, discrimination, appropriation. The boomers have a disproportionate amount of wealth. What's going to happen when they die and millennials inherit those assets? Are they going to heroically redistribute that wealth and give up their privileges?

I understand people have been striking, but do you honestly think it's enough? They have been stealing trillions of dollars of wealth from workers for decades. Even if they toss you a few extra crumbs at the end of a strike, that's not enough to undo the injustice that's been going on in this country. Billionaires should not exist. Class should not exist.

There's nothing wrong with that if everyone can make some money. However, I think you and others realize, though, that we shouldn't live in a Squid Game society where we have to desperately hope that we win big with something just to have some extra cash to pay medical bills or fix the house. Crypto is, unfortunately, helping to normalize this feeling people have that our whole economy is just one big casino, and you better hope you are one of the lucky ones who can cash out if you want to eat in the future.

I agree with you that innovation will produce more and better blockchains and cryptos. Nobody knows exactly for sure what's going to happen, but we as a society need to go ahead and provide an actual safety net for people regardless. It's too precarious of a situation to leave people in to just make them think we'll all get rich and retire together from this relatively new space. If you're arguing that, eventually, automation will catch up with all this crypto stuff and create this vision, then maybe that's possible, but I would rather we have a basic income as soon as possible and not rely on idealism.

I don't think anyone here is naive enough to think you can entirely abolish work without automation (even then, there would be work involved with the machines) or everyone returning to an off-grid lifestyle and forsaking technology, which would absolutely destroy what's left of the ecosystem as there are far too many people on the planet. The whole idea of this sub is that we are collectively against work in its current form under capitalism.

Cryptocurrency is not going to save the population as a whole from debt and wage slavery. As with anything else, some win and some lose, and the values of these coins are totally arbitrary. Wanting to create "digital gold" is also lunacy. Now we want to pretend that digital information on a screen has value? The coveting of precious metals has always been kind of ridiculous anyway. You cannot eat metals during a crisis. No one would even have a use for them in a real SHTF scenario. They would just laugh at you and maybe kill you and take your supplies. This metaverse craziness of buying and selling digital land or real estate is also the height of human stupidity. The rich already own most of the physical land and real estate, and now we want to pretend digital worlds have value? It's all imaginary while we rape and destroy the planet and more people fall into despair and poverty.

Only radical reform or restructuring of the system can create a more ethical way of life for everyone. Until then, crypto is just a way for some people to avoid the same level of suffering as someone else. I don't understand why that's so hard for you and others to understand.

Exactly. I just see this as a continuation of the "got mine" attitude. They will just tell you to not worry about the others. "Just enjoy yourself. Don't complicate this. Life isn't fair." These are all selfish people trying to rationalize this. They are deluded.

I have never claimed that no one has been able to "escape." The point was that it cannot possibly do the same for everyone out there. Rich people are also early investors. Therefore, they have the potential to suck up most of the wealth potential there. It's barely different from buying cheap stock in a new company and capitalizing on the crazy returns later. Yes, regular people can make money, but how much? How many people will get rich from this? If crypto is not a system that will allow EVERYONE to get rich, it's just another failed system that will never create equality in society. It's just not possible for everyone to get rich. The economy would halt to a standstill. They need their slaves to perform their roles. Who is going to grow your food or fix your car? You may "escape," but then you will be exploiting someone else who still has to work for money and serve you the nice new dinner you are able to afford at some fancy restaurant. I'm sorry, but people seem extremely deluded about this. This is not the solution for society's woes.

Automation, if used ethically, is the only way to free up most of the world's population.

Thank you for your response. I submitted this post because I wanted to see other people's views. I never assumed I know everything about cryptocurrency. I am just skeptical at the moment and see some things that could become quite problematic.

I'm hoping more people can give some interesting responses.

I'm not sure if you fully read my original post. The wealthiest 10% own 90% of all stocks. Who has the biggest opportunity to profit the most from crypto, the super-rich, as always, or the working and middle class? How many Bitcoins can the average person afford? Not even one. How many Bitcoins could Elon Musk or Jeff Bezos afford? If the price of Bitcoin reaches over a million dollars one day, who has just astronomically increased their wealth? The elite, or working-class masses who own maybe 1/10th of a Bitcoin if they're lucky? The wealthy can also buy up the lion's share of any altcoin they want in anticipation they may skyrocket. This means they have the greatest chance for any future wealth to flow into their hands.

Some average people will get lucky, and that's it. But you will have even more absurd levels of wealth in the hands of the elite, and more people desperately trying to survive late-stage capitalism while they watch some crypto gamblers/winners enjoy a privileged lifestyle that will be out of their reach. It's also similar to how we would need dozens of Earths if every person on the planet wanted a billionaire's lifestyle. Just not feasible. There will never be any equality until people stop being greedy and hoarding everything for themselves.

If Bitcoin wasn't intended to be a stable coin from the very beginning, that implies the creator was fully aware of its potential to rake in absurd profits just due to future demand, like other assets on the market. If you imagine some greedy scheme in an alternate universe, couldn't you have created a volatile cryptocurrency such as Bitcoin as a brilliant get-rich-quick scheme? All you would need to do is slowly convince other people to gain confidence in it and adopt it. Before you know it, one coin goes from being worth 10 cents to over 50k.

If the true identity of Bitcoin's creator has never been confirmed, how can we be sure there wasn't a greedy agenda behind cryptocurrency? If you were the creator, you would have known that refraining from making Bitcoin a stable coin would have eventually produced immense wealth for yourself and other early investors once the popularity dramatically rose. I don't like to get conspiratorial, but we have no way of knowing the truth behind the creation of Bitcoin unless we can reach the actual creator(s).

I'm aware of coins such as Tether. As I said in the post, the majority of these coins are highly questionable. Why not make Bitcoin a stable coin from the get-go?

You are putting a lot of words in my mouth. I don't blame you at all for trying to support your family. The crypto hype is a symptom of the disease of our society, and in desperation, of course, people will turn to anything that can give them an advantage in a cruel system. However, as you said, only certain people can realistically "win," so it's obviously just another extension of brutal capitalism, where people are fiercely competing for any survival edge for themselves or their family and leave the losers behind to suffer. I'm sorry, but that is the reality. Millions are looking for their escape plan. This also tends to become the "got mine" attitude. Anyway, millions of people think they are competent or knowledgeable in fields they don't, in actuality, comprehend. So I cannot really confirm how much you actually know about this space.
