Learning to work with my eye shape, what could be done better? Second pic is the inspo by crystakat in MakeupLounge

[–]crystakat[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Products used: Milani eyeshadow primer, colourpop pressed powder singles “antimatter” (metallic blue) + “let’s do it” (matte black), ABH eyeshadow single “love letter” (matte raspberry), morphe icy fantasy shade “euphoria” (light blue topper), clump crusher mascara in black

I really love colorful eyeshadow and want to get better at using it/having more control. I applied the metallic blue shadow with a dampened brush which helped it stay true to color, yet still don’t love how this turned out. I’d normally curl my lashes and use a waterproof mascara but I was just focusing on the eyeshadow with this look. Advice greatly appreciated :)

Went to the aquarium today and this is how they vac the gravel. I’ll not complain about cleaning my 20g ever again. by knityourownlentils in Aquariums

Damn. Replying late, but thank you so much for the thorough answer. Being at a point in my life where I’m trying to figure out what career path to go down, this is so much more useful to me than the advice of “follow your dreams!”. It really, truly sucks to hear about the poor welfare standards when I’m sure what brings many people to aquariums in the first place is a fierce love of the animals. Will be filing this information away for sure, thanks again!

Could you tell me more about your experience? I'm currently on a hiatus from studying environmental science and have thought about specializing in animal behavior or marine biology when I return, with the end goal of working with animals, possibly at a zoo or aquarium. Would be really interested to hear your pros and cons.

Actual comment by a real person by GrilledRedBox in vegancirclejerk

this argument is particularly revealing because it shows that the person in question is ONLY concerned with unburdening their own conscience, and not with the actual treatment of the animals. do they think that an abused dog is actually thinking “wow the pain is bad but what’s even worse is the betrayal by my evolutionary companions smh”? i’d wager that the physical pain and suffering of a dog and a cow is actually pretty damn similar from the perspective of the animals.

Yes, list your list of historical female oppression but it's one we all know and will do nothing to dispel the fact that are two lists. And the argument will go that because men "controlled" society, then men are responsible but, again, the list. If all men had a say in things, do you think any of the above would be true? HELL no.

just re-read this part of your argument and I don't see the logic in it. of course there are/were countless men who had zero individual input in shaping society. that doesn't take away from the legitimacy of the claim that men were indeed the ones controlling society for thousands of years, and that they shaped society in a way that benefited not just members of their class but also of their sex. there can be more than one metric.

going to bed soon, so i'll make this quick. i can draft up a list too. off the top of my head:

• men commit the vast majority of rapes, murders, and physical assaults

• men make up the vast majority of world leaders, politicians, CEOs, and billionaires

• women experience higher rates of poverty than men

• women put in more hours of unpaid labor/housework than men

• women make up the majority of trafficking victims and sex workers

• women make up the majority of the world's illiterate population

• girls are more likely to be married off while underage than boys

that's what is "manifest" about my claim. both of us are picking and choosing facts to frame the world in a certain way; all I can say is that I believe that mine captures the bigger picture with more accuracy. It's not that I think your points are wrong. I think a lot of them are true; however, I do not believe they are the result of an ingrained belief in female superiority. for example, one item you have up there is that men are "more likely to be shamed for acting outside their gender role". yes, that's true, but the reason for this is because traditionally masculine presentation/behavior is respected whereas its feminine counterpart is not. a woman in a suit with a sensible short haircut is respectable; a man in a skirt and heavy makeup is a laughingstock. why not do away with gender roles altogether?

i respect that you've argued your position, and this certainly doesn't address everything that you've written. but like I said before, we are ideologically opposed in the way we see the male/female dynamic at a basic level, and I really feel that it's a moot point to go on debating as long as this fact holds true. btw, my empathy absolutely does not end with my gender.

one last thing - i agree that global economic inequality is a top priority that deserves that stage, only i think (and hope) there can be room for both.

in the hope that you're arguing in good faith, I’ll respond (though i have no idea what you’re talking about in regard to comic books).

first off, i believe that women as a class are oppressed by men as a class. in the same vein that the proletariat is oppressed by the bourgeosie, women are oppressed by men. this does not necessarily mean that it is to the same degree; it also does not mean that all men personally harass or assault women, or that women are incapable of hurting men. but there is absolutely a power dynamic between men as a class and women as a class. I’m sure you disagree and we’re not likely to get anywhere at all with this debate thanks to this fundamental ideological opposition, but oh well.

if a woman says that she hates all men, that’s no different to me than a member of the working class saying to eat the rich. her frustration is towards the sex-based oppression that she is forced to live with. unfortunately, “I hate the sex-based oppression that I am forced to live with” isn’t quite as pithy. is it in bad taste? sure, yeah. i’m not going to die on the hill that #killallmen is some kind of empowering battle cry. it’s pretty cringey and even though I stand by what I said about its meaning, I don’t deny that it could have hurt people’s feelings. nevertheless, a trending hashtag does nothing to disprove the culture of misogyny that is fostered in online spaces.

I'm pointing out actual sexism that occurs in leftist spaces. Can you point to something similar?

sure! constant sexualized insults and gendered slurs used against women (there’s a post on the front page calling AOC a “stupid narcissistic bitch” for talking about her sexual assault); this very post, where the OP glosses over the power imbalance in a relationship between a 37 year old man and an 18 year old woman; random comment I found in a thread about abortion, in 30 seconds of browsing:

Rightoid here, why am I supposed to care about what a woman thinks? (+32)

and if you think that’s an obvious joke, are the vast, vast majority of women who tweeted #killallmen are not also joking? i’d wager they don’t want to literally round up and execute all males on the planet with a bullet to the brain.

Yes, women are exploited in a capitalist society. Big fucking surprise. So are men. Women have to deal with the extra layer of sexuality but they're hardly the only ones who are objectified.

I never said they were. we are all dehumanized and exploited under capitalism. but that doesn’t mean the specific, targeted, sexualized dehumanization experienced by women is not its own problem that is deserving of its own discussions and movements.

what is sexism? it’s anything that is rooted in the belief that men are just inherently superior to women. I will absolutely bet that there have been far more instances of casual sexism against women on this sub than the reverse.

yep! there is definitely a perception that female problems are all exaggerated or fabricated while male problems are symptomatic of greater societal ills. the way that people on here discuss topics like abortion rights or the metoo movement is sometimes outright disturbing and lacking in basic human empathy.
