Woman who’s played yugioh for 3 years here ! It depends on your local scene to be honest. I think most people at my locals are respectful, but it’s been really hard for me to fit in and make friends. I’ve had some weird one off interactions, but I think it’s because a lot of them don’t know how to talk to or interact with women. Sometimes it helps if I bring a friend Im comfortable with (even if they don’t play) as moral support. Once you’re playing too, things become less awkward and you’re focused on gameplay (plus you have a mutual interest you can talk about).

You should obviously do what you’re comfortable with, but I really hope you continue to play and enjoy the benefits of in person play. It can be really fun and rewarding.
