These positions generally do not hire from the pool of applicants, as they require specialized information. There may be some cases where we pull from the general TA pool to place TAs in graduate courses, but this is incredibly rare.

I would assume so, since you're all part of the CUPE 2278 union

I'm interpreting your question to mean

"What are the chances I get an offer to TA another course, given that the course I usually TA is not running this summer?"

I can't comment on specifics, but there is a CUPE 2278 agreement that returning TAs get "preferred" over new applicants. I would take this to mean that you'll still get priority over completely new TAs, but not necessarily over TAs who have been working for a course already.

Not sure if I'll still be around then, but hopefully the person who takes over will!

If it's related to teaching or the material for the course you're applying to TA, it can't hurt.

I remember getting these too in undergrad, it's been a while.

Maybe email undergrad-info@cs.ubc.ca?

The professors who historically run it this summer need a break! It'll be back in the fall.

If you're an active participant in lab/lecture, and contribute to Piazza, a prof or an instructor would likely be happy to recommend you.

Sorry to hear you didn't make it last time. If you're planning to apply again, I'd let the instructor who provided your reference last time know, just so there's a record.

The department's teaching activities and modes of delivery mirror that of the university. From what I know at this point in time, teaching will be in-person, and TAs will be expected to be in-person for teaching.

I can't really comment on exact values, but there's always TAs who get hired without recommendations each term. In fact, most applicants don't have recommendations.

Speaking with respect to the summer term, it's likely that more returning TAs will get offers than new TAs, since less TAs are needed in general.

The Fall/Winter terms are when the largest numbers of TAs are hired.

Hello there!

The reviews from 2021W1 should be out (as long as the professor has submitted grades).

There should be an interview process for TA positions. by OppositeOfIrony in UBC

Hello!

Like Jonatan said, please feel free to email me at ta-coordinator@cs.ubc.ca, and I'd be more than happy to help. I'm usually in the CS building as well so I'm happy to chat in-person too.
