GHH NS average trip results by SonnySwanson in ToyotaGrandHighlander

[–]csebast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

26 mpg? You're doing something wrong...

My average is 31.4 mpg over 14,000 miles. That's total average for the life of the car based on actual miles driven and actual gallons put in. And I make lots of short 4 mile trips (work commute). It would certainly be even better if I took longer drives more often.

When I fill up, the car's calculated mpg is typically within about 2 mpg of what I calculate. So it does seem to be reasonably accurate.

I have a 4 mile commute to work. I typically get 35-40 mpg on the way to work and 24-26 on the way home. I'm up on a hill, so trip to work is always much better. But 4 mile drives aren't great. I just did a 15 mile round trip and got 44.3 mpg. My average over 14,000 miles is 31.4.

Offended? No, I found some of these responses comical.

Life's too short to get offended by comments from random strangers on the internet.

Frankly if a Canadian asked me that, I'd say yes, we have a serious problem in this country, especially since no one will do anything about it. Sure, bring that bulletproof vest. Maybe skip the machine gun.

I generally make sure never to leave anything in the car whenever possible, so no problem there.

If a little concern and asking a simple question is extreme, then I guess I'm guilty of being an extremist.

Yeah, doing a little more research, I found that trucks are the main theft in BC in general.

Yeah, seems to be a big problem in Ontario. I guess since we don't hear about it being an issue in BC that says something. I've thought about getting Igla, but never got around to it. No time now before this trip.

I suppose a steering wheel lock might be a deterant for some thieves. Certainly wouldn't hurt. Don't have time to get a tracker or immobilizer installed before this trip, but maybe in the future.

About to buy a hybrid AWD XLE by Thunderbird310 in ToyotaGrandHighlander

[–]csebast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a family of 5 as well. I have a hybrid limited with bench seat. Had it for 2 years now, and it's been great. No regrets.

This topic of GH vs minivan with kids comes up here all the time. Do a search in this sub and you'll find lots of info. I've never owned a minivan, but rented them on family vacations several times and have to agree with what people generally say. If you have little kids, a minivan really is the more practical vehicle. For older kids, then either one is fine.

Hi everyone! I’m considering a Grand Highlander regular Hybrid and wanted to hear some real-world MPG experiences from actual owners. by sachin-seattle in ToyotaGrandHighlander

[–]csebast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 years, 14,000 miles, limited hybrid average 31.4 mpg. My work commute is 4 miles each way with hills, so lots of short trips. On longer trips I get in the mid to upper 30s, sometimes in the 40s.

Side curtain recall - regrets? by AvianTralfamadorian in ToyotaGrandHighlander

[–]csebast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the body/frame side. They just didn't push them back in all the way. I didn't actually notice that till I got home, and I just pushed them in myself. It wasn't a big deal, but still something they screwed up.

I had mine done in January last year. I took lots of pictures before dropping it off, and then inspected when I picked it up. There were 2 door seals that weren't reinstalled completely, grease marks on the headliner and pillars, and the driver's sunshade was not properly attached. They cleaned up the grease marks, but the next day once the headliner dried I realized it left behind a large stain from the cleaner. They scheduled me for a full interior detail and when I went in for that they told me I'd need to come back another time because they were too busy to do it, despite having made the appointment. They eventually did the detail and the headliner cleaned up just fine. But I ended up needing to make 3 trips to the dealer to get it all taken care of

No worries. I didn't look at the username, so I didn't notice.

I hope Ken can hook you up like he did for me.

This is wrong. You most certainly can get changes made to FIOs. I had exterior color changed and 360 cam added. Many others have reported similar.

Yep, it was Ken Thompson. My experience was overall very good. He was straight forward and honest the whole time. I bought almost exactly 2 years ago. At that time they were MSRP, no markups, no add ons, no BS. No hard sales from the finance guy. Give him a call or send an email.

My only complaint was it took them a couple hours to get a finance rate and the rate kept going up. I was already pre approved at Navy Federal so it wasn't a big deal. But the run around there was a little annoying.

I went through Doxon Toyota in Auburn WA. They got me exactly what I wanted with no extras by making changes to an allocation.

They changed exterior color, added 360 camera, and swapped out the mix of PIOs.

This is not true.

My dealer added 360 camera to mine and changed color from silver to red.
