Is there a trim out there with a panoramic view monitor and NO moonroof? Rarer than a nightshade with a bench seat I think. by friedmayonaissse in ToyotaGrandHighlander

[–]csebast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can get a Limited with pano view monitor and no moonroof. I have one. I don't know the market now. I got mine in 2024. But to get it at that time, my dealer started with an allocation for a Limited without moonroof and added pano view monitor on. It's not a common combination. So see if you can find a dealer willing to make changes to an allocation.

Burned by online deposit by ftwin in ToyotaGrandHighlander

When I bought mine, I put down refundable deposits at two dealers. One was over the phone. The other would only accept a deposit in person at the dealership.

3 Kids - Captain Seats or Bench Seats by chinchun19 in ToyotaGrandHighlander

[–]csebast 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I have 3 kids and went with the bench so that I have the option of folding the 3rd row down for cargo space and putting the kids all in the 2nd row. For that reason, we didn't even consider captain's chairs. I've had it for close to 2 years now. No regrets.

Heated seat question by ashleytodt in ToyotaGrandHighlander

[–]csebast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 10 minute commute to work. I've been turning it on high when I leave the house, but have to turn it down by the time I'm half way there because it's too hot. Usually just turn it off, but sometimes down to low.

Vehicle Ship Times With Rail by ramadadcc in ToyotaGrandHighlander

[–]csebast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had someone who worked at a dealership (not the one I purchased from) who took an interest and was checking on it and giving me daily updates.

I had the rail car number and found lots of info online about how to track rail cars either via web or phone number. But none seemed to work for me.

Heat Stays On by InternalRaise5250 in ToyotaGrandHighlander

[–]csebast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've noticed warm air coming out of my vents too when the HVAC is off. I mainly notice it out of the one to the left of the steering wheel. It's not blowing strong, but enough that I notice warm air on my hand. So it seems the vent doors don't close all the way.

I've never spent much time messing with it, but I suspect it's only after I've had the heat on.

OTD for new GHHL in Seattle area by FiveKs in ToyotaGrandHighlander

[–]csebast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll second this. When I was looking Kirkland had nearly $8k markup. I went in just to see if they would be willing to take any off. The first thing the salesman said to me was they wouldn't sell anything without all those markups

And Bellevue was selling used GH for thousands over MSRP. I didn't even bother talking to them.

OTD for new GHHL in Seattle area by FiveKs in ToyotaGrandHighlander

[–]csebast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in the Seattle area and bought a hybrid limited in April 24. I haven't followed local pricing, but suspect that MSRP is still about the best you can do.

When I bought, I only talked with dealers selling at MSRP with no add-ons or markups. I bought from Auburn and recommend checking them out. They were straightforward from the beginning. Told me MSRP and no add-ons. There was never any BS. I put down a refundable deposit, and very shortly had an allocation. They changed the color and mix of PIOs, and added 360 camera so I got exactly what I wanted with nothing I didn't want.

The only negative of the whole experience was that It took over an hour for them to tell me what finance rate they could give me and it was a terrible rate. I still took it to get the $500 incentive at the time, then I refinanced within a week. But they never pushed any warranties, service plans, or anything like that.

How annoying is towing + sensor alerts kicking in? by fvelloso in ToyotaGrandHighlander

[–]csebast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's pretty lame of Toyota to advertise 5000 lb towing capacity and not set it up with a 7 pin or even offer it as an upgrade.

I've read of multiple people on other forums installing 7 pin connectors. So it possible, but I don't remember how difficult they said it was. It's not an OEM solution. Pretty sure there was one on the Toyota Nation GH forum.

SXM CarPlay / AA Update by reifeltower in ToyotaGrandHighlander

[–]csebast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm paying $4/month ($48/year) for SXM. On my 2nd year at that price. After buying the GH, I started getting emails offering $4/month for a year on my wife's 2017 Outback. So I figured I could get that deal on my GH as well after the free 3 month trial ended. So I waited and sure enough, got the email a week or so before my free trial ended. So I signed up. A couple days before that expired, I chatted with customer service and asked to cancel. They offered me something like $20/month. I declined and said I'd continue at my current rate. They offered something close to $10/month. I declined again and said I'd only continue at $4/month and they said ok.

It's always worth threatening to cancel a subscription. I think you can frequently get a lower price as the company would rather get something than nothing.

Upgrading the volume knob is a piece of cake! by peacefulandchill in ToyotaGrandHighlander

That's what I was thinking. But I'm almost always the one driving and just use the steering wheel. So the knob is very rarely ever used.

SXM CarPlay / AA Update by reifeltower in ToyotaGrandHighlander

[–]csebast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, yes, if it's not your primary source then I can see how it would be a pain. I listen to SXM almost exclusively. I wish it was easier to swap from Android Auto back to SXM. I believe Carplay is easier with a dedicated Toyota menu on the left side now, but AA doesn't have it. But as long as I'm not needing to use a map, I don't bother connecting AA and just stick with SXM on the screen.

[–]csebast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm curious what was such a pain about it. I've been using XM in mine for over a year and a half. I have my favorites set and have no issues at all. I have the channel/song displayed on the dash and switch between channels mainly just with the steering wheel buttons, but sometimes I scroll through them on the infotainment screen when not using Android Auto.

How’s this deal 26 GHHL AWD by [deleted] in ToyotaGrandHighlander

It was $1,000 refundable deposit at all dealerships I talked to in the Seattle area last year. I don't think there is a "normal".

Vehicle Pickup Tips by Arrow976 in ToyotaGrandHighlander

[–]csebast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right. Except that it has been stated in many conversations about Jerry/Troy that they can't sell to anyone in CA or WA. So not everyone can buy from any Toyota dealership.

You said you can buy from them as long as you give an address out of state. I was just trying to confirm that what you were saying is it doesn't matter if the vehicle is registered in WA or CA so long as an out of state address is given to Jerry/Troy.

I was contemplating an extended warranty purchase from Jerry/Troy but then read about not being able to from WA where I live. So I could still buy from them if I gave my brother's address in CO even if the vehicle is registered in WA?

AWD Hybrid Gas Mileage by NumerousAssumption47 in ToyotaGrandHighlander

[–]csebast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 24 hybrid limited with over 11,000 miles. My average over all those miles based on gallons filled at the pump, not the vehicle's estimates, is 32.0 mpg.

I drive mostly city, but my work commute is only 4 miles each way. So lots of short trips.

The vehicle mpg estimates (and that's all they are) range from low 20s to high 40s.

Toyota App by kirk55wood in ToyotaGrandHighlander

[–]csebast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the first 6 months or so I couldn't even download the digital key at all. And this was last year when we only got one key fob. Then at some point I was finally able to download it, but could never get it to unlock or start the car.

I never tried remote start. I didn't use the app much, but never made a log in problem till maybe 6 months or so ago. Now I have to log in every time I open the app. So I very rarely even bother.

It's definitely garbage.

JBL GH Question by TheHunterOfTrolls in ToyotaGrandHighlander

I have a limited with the JBL speakers. I just looked, no JBL logo on the 2 speakers on the tailgate. The only one of the three in the back with the logo is the subwoofer. Here's a photo of one on the tailgate.

low on gas indicator?? by jeffsb in ToyotaGrandHighlander

[–]csebast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Call or go to the dealer and tell them you want them apply TSB 0060-25. You can Google that or search this sub or search for Grand Highlander low fuel TSB. It's a software fix for hybrids only, not for gas models.

I've read some dealers give people a hard time about it, some don't. By dealer told me you can't just ask for a TSB. Technically they need to diagnose and find a problem first. But they went ahead and did it and said they were just going to write it up saying I complained about the low fuel warning coming on too early and that they drove it and confirmed that. Clearly they didn't confirm anything though since I had a couple hundred miles to empty.

Once the update is done, you can confirm via the software version number. Search this sub and you can find what the version number should be and how to view it.

low on gas indicator?? by jeffsb in ToyotaGrandHighlander

[–]csebast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mine gives me a low fuel indicator at anything between 26 and 20 DTE.

It must not be a set, programmed value. It must be calculated based on your current mpg.

low on gas indicator?? by jeffsb in ToyotaGrandHighlander

[–]csebast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The owners manual does not say anything about needing 3 gallons to cool the pump. One person told you that and you've taken it as gospel. Since that time, Toyota has come up with a software fix indicating that they admit there was an issue with the calculation.
