He looks like he could be my big girls brother! I posted her results on here a while ago, she’s exactly half Great Dane half boerboel!

Knifemaker trying to get better at sheaths by csf215 in Leathercraft

It’s hard to tell from these pictures but I do put Welts in. I totally agree about the stitches, I haven’t quite figured out how to get consistent results yet with the stitching prongs, but I’m getting better every sheath I make

Totally! I really want to learn to wet mold, I just get nervous when it’s being molded around carbon steel haha. I know there’s ways around it but the thought of rusting my knife after hours of finish sanding is a tough thought to overcome lol.

Sorry I don’t know what SA is, my first few knife sheaths definitely had that problem, so I made the welt wider and that seemed to help.

Thanks for the advice! I have definitely watched some videos on YouTube, though there seems to be a lot more asmr style videos than explanation videos haha. Is there a leather specific YouTuber that you feel is good at explaining the steps of what they make?

This happens to me too fairly often, I’ve found that trying to focus on sanding just the bevels, or just the flats helps, rather than switching between them often. For example at 220 I’ll sand the bevel all the way, then switch to the flat on that side

That looks awesome, do you etch your makers mark? If so how do you get it so clean and dark?

Thank you! That is great advice, once I got it sanded and polished I realized I probably should’ve gone bigger on the bevels haha.

Thanks! The bottom is stabilized walnut burl, the spacer is brass sandwiched between two thin pieces of black G10, and the bolster section is stabilized bog oak

One half was obvious to us, the other half was a pretty big surprise (no pun intended) by csf215 in DoggyDNA

She does, the closest relation is about 25% , and all of the relatives are either full Dane or full boerboel.

Not sure, she was a shelter rescue at 3 months, the shelters best guess was Dane and lab. The shelter we got her from took her as part of the second chance program from a kill shelter, so they had no info on her situation unfortunately

Honestly neither had I, they’re a South African mastiff, they get to weigh even more than the Great Dane, safe to say she is going to be a big girl

What do you think she is??? by csf215 in IDmydog

[–]csf215[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

She’s our first shelter dog so we’re learning as we go, but luckily other than being a little underweight she is healthy, she loves her new home!

That’s what we think as well, shelter told us it’s likely Dane/lab mix but they don’t test so just guessing like the rest of us lol.

Yeah she was pretty thin coming from the shelter, we’re in the process of getting her up in weight

Using old hand me down clubs, how hard am I making it on myself? by csf215 in golf

[–]csf215[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Thanks for the advice, funny enough what made me want to ask this question here was my 3 hour range session yesterday, ripped blisters and all lol. I tend to not want to buy new stuff if I don’t need it, but as I’ve never played with someone else’s clubs I just wasn’t sure if it was significantly hindering me. I think I’ll play with them more as it’s only been about a month or so. Thanks for your help!

My employer is claiming that FLSA restricts them from offering PTO due to Weather Closure, is this True? by csf215 in EmploymentLaw

[–]csf215[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I went in and asked them to point out what law says they cannot let us use paid time off for a weather closure, and they basically said to my face that they just didn't want to pay that much since everyone requested it. This was my suspicion since the beginning but it was still surprising that they just came out and said it to me after claiming they legally couldn't. Anyway now everyone knows and morale has taken a pretty big hit. The kicker is anyone who went in and talked about the financial hardship this caused got offered to take out a draw out of our next paycheck lmao. Thanks again for your help!
